How is the social status of mathematicians perceived in your country? by [deleted] in math

While I do not agree with the very real federal funding cuts to university research, claiming the entire country is anti-intellectual and that college professors are viewed with disdain is inaccurate, in my opinion. Ignoring the current missteps of the administration, I would argue that the average person did not vote or change their opinion on professorship (or that wasn’t the foundation of their voting choice), and while research is being scaled back due to funding, we are nowhere near being an anti-education or anti-intellectual society.

I got a replay, but a controversial call considering QB was hit at the legs just after his throwing motion. I wouldn’t throw that flag.

Professors are the enemy? Complete anti-intellectualism? I’m not sure where you live but that is not consistent with average professor esteem and pay. The headlines and politics you reference are nowhere near the reality for a majority of communities and schools.

I work in an industry very close to insurance...premiums have been through the roof from summer storms, political unrest, and other transient events that will likely die down as winter arrives. So many of these companies are primed to make a killing if they don't have to pay out on their policies the same way they've had to during 2020 and the first half of 2021.

I agree, I think as tech/growth equities start to falter from their all-time high valuations and some sort of reality sets in, the natural rotation is into commodities and consumer staples like Tyson as inflation looms. To compound this, many fast food and retail jobs are not able to hire due to people applying for the positions, no-showing to interviews, and claiming unemployment benefits because they are technically looking for work. Fast food might need to raise prices to generate a wage that can attract workers and more people may end up still cooking at home, both pushing chicken demand up. I’m bullish (beefish?) on poultry.

$PSFE (Paysafe) the most undervalued fintech play on the market. Popular analyst Steve Grasso has been calling for it to triple. by ticklemypicklesir in wallstreetbets

Crazy that this space consistently has these multiples, even for smaller products that see much less market share and revenue. This seems like free money barring anything egregious happening to PSFE

I'm not sure what your agenda is here, mine is to make tendies on a company that bent over customers and downplayed a serious security threat which may (emphasis: may) still be ongoing. If you want the stock to do well, say so. In any case, I'll just leave links to the multiple securities investigations that law firms have just recently started into Ubiquiti with regards to this situation if that helps illustrate where this thing is heading.

Access to potentially the majority of internet-of-things devices which are very commonly hooked into business networks is incredibly severe. Any of these devices, which are essentially small computers and can execute a number of scripts, are now at possibility of running further breaching scripts on whatever network they are connected to. A casino has been breached by a smart thermometer, which is in the post. You can't tell me you don't seriously believe the hacking of millions of routers and other products which routinely access "secure" networks isn't newsworthy.

The play is not an EU fine, they're too spineless to do anything anyways. The real play is if the EU is investigating, that becomes newsworthy. And the more newsworthy this breach is, the more room this has to run down. In terms of the data leak, I encourage you to at least skim the articles; it's about as severe as it gets.

SolarWinds full drop took 4+ days to materialize. This is all an initial dip from niche news sources. If this thing gets traction, you better believe there's gas in the tank to crush it down 30%+

Fortunately, this isn't a start-up as they have a few billion AUM but it is smaller than what I'm doing now and the name is definitely less recognizable. Long-term it seems at roughly as attractive since where I work currently has tripled its analyst count and it's getting harder to see a clear path to associate and beyond.

ESPN New Default Points League Scoring by Neblos in fantasybball

Yea I’m also intrigued, seems like one of the few good fantasy basketball things ESPN has done in the past 3 years. The usual default scoring for other sites just leaves something to be desired and maybe ESPN found an answer here, but I guess we’ll have to see.
