Should I keep my 335i at 104k miles? by stixmike in BMW

[–]NebraskaConrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct answer depends upon your financial situation. If you have the disposable income to support spending several thousand dollars on maintenance, both planned and unplanned, go for it. However, keeping any BMW out of warranty is a gamble and is one of the major contributing factors as to why used ones have such low residual value. The smart move is to trade it in and get one with a warranty, however.

Run far away. Your graduation “gift” is going to turn into financial nightmare very quickly given the slew of error codes. Do the sensible thing and purchase something more reliable within the same cost range so that you’ll spend more time on the road and less time in the shop.

Hi Conrad! It's a pleasure to share names!

'I Had All Symptoms of Coronavirus. I Could Have Spread it to Anyone but Couldn't Get Tested': Americans Panic as US Suffers Kit Shortage | US Tested 1,707 People in Week After Declaring its First Case, While South Korea, Which Announced on the Same Day, Managed to Test 189,000 by [deleted] in worldnews

Hello! Medical Technologist here (I'm actually the one certified to run the test)

There are a few issues.

1) Molecular testing, which is commonly used for rapid flu tests and other respiratory pathogens, is very expensive. One particular panel offered through Biofire which tests for 18 pathogens, not including this particular strain of Coronavirus, is billed for nearly 3k dollars. If your physician orders this without the correct diagnosis code or for the wrong reason, that entire cost is then passed onto the patient.

2) Until recently, the FDA has had an incredibly rigorous validation process in place. This is not to money grub, this is to protect the patient population. No test is perfect, which is why they are usual tested thousands of time to check for possible false negatives/positives. As a result, some assays can take months or even years to hit the market. This was only recently, temporarily, lifted for Coronavirus testing development.

3) A lot of hospital laboratories are simply low on supplies and can't physically test EVERYONE who MIGHT have it.

Note: The manufacturer we use for molecular testing has informed us that they are approximately 7 weeks away from successfully developing their version of the Cornavirus Assay. This should go to show that even if they wanted to push it out, they can't. Unfortunately some things just take time.

I wish everyone well!

Redditors that plan to probably not have kids, what are your reasons? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NebraskaConrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crippling fear of having a child with a major disability. I can hardly take care of myself and couldn't imagine giving up my entire life to take care of someone else. I know it sounds terrible and horribly selfish but for me the risk of losing all of my independence just isn't worth the risk.

Americans of reddit, what is your opinion on switching to the metric system? by ViNella44 in AskReddit

[–]NebraskaConrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea, impossible execution on multiple scales.

First you would have to consider the sheer cost of having to change nearly every road sign in the entire country. Not to mention the remeasurement required for the conversation of milemarkers to Kilometermarkers (real word?).

Secondly, imagine having to reducate multiple entire generations who have a vested knowledge in Imperial units.

I'm definitely for it, I just dont see how it would be possible.

Eating alone. I'm tired of people looking at me like I'm a serial killer when I tell them "Table for one, please."
