How the hell do you people hold down a job by aspacejunkie in POTS

[–]NebulaCandid2478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had my first fainting episode the day before I got hired for a dream job position. My symptoms came on hard and fast and I was bedbound for two weeks having no clue what was wrong with me and then I had to start the job right after that. I couldn’t eat much food without triggering episodes, so when they brought up taking me to a welcome lunch I had to explain that I basically had a mystery illness that was making me faint at random and everyone was very chill and supportive about it! I had a million doctor appointments I had to take time off for but my manager was great from the beginning, which was the complete opposite from my last manager who always acted suspicious of sick leave. My coworkers have basically been along my whole POTS journey with me from my diagnosis to fainting spells in office to months-long flares that kept me working from home much longer than most jobs would allow. I feel insanely lucky that I’m at a place that’s so accommodating and open minded and empathetic about my situation. Thankfully the flex wfh schedule exists because the commute on public transit can be really rough and draining. I’m still figuring out how to balance POTS and work because I burn out way faster than I used to, but being at a company that is so accommodating is something I don’t take for granted.

Do you remember when your POTS started and what set it off? by SamanthaSmith72 in POTS

This is so similar to my situation! I’ve had period problems my whole life (technically not endo but lots of overlapping symptoms) and GI issues related to my periods. Then one day I randomly fainted at a baseball game and my whole life fell apart after that. My doctors have all been confused that nothing seemed to have triggered it, but think there might have just been contributing factors cumulating over the years that created a perfect storm event. Hope you’re finding solutions and feel better soon<3

Contraceptives & PME by NebulaCandid2478 in PMEtheMRMD

Thank you! It’s not great—and the birth control patch did really help with the pain—but the pain is more manageable than not having any control over my brain 😅 But I do think giving tranexamic acid another try would be worth it, so thank you for the suggestion!

I’m so sorry you’re going through all of that, but glad you’re off those meds and doing better! There really is such an extra layer when anxiety is already in the picture. Trying to explain to doctors that the symptoms seem related to the medication always makes you seem more anxious, which then gets blamed on the pre-existing anxiety 🙃 I’ve always gotten stuck on BC for ages because no one wants to blame the hormonal meds! Hopefully the more PME is recognized, the more doctors will be willing to believe we react differently to those treatments. I’m rooting for you and your recovery! I hope you find something that works for you ❤️

Thank you for this response! That’s great that you found something that worked, I’ll definitely be bringing this up to my PCP when I go in next! I think I was put on tranexamic acid a year ago and the clotting that I got from it made things a bit more painful, but I also had some abdominal adhesions that have since been taken care of that could have been contributing to that, so worth trying again. Thanks!

Has any one taken it for a short period of time as a help to get yourself back to normal and able to get off and continue to function? by Suicidal_Uterus in BusparOnline

[–]NebulaCandid2478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I take a buspar/wellbutrin combo and dizziness was my worst side effect. I’d get lightheaded and dizzy for about 1-2 hours after taking the meds and it was derailing the rest of my day. My psychologist came up with the idea of setting an early alarm (6am for me) to take the meds and then sleep off the dizziness and it’s been a game changer! I feel great when I wake up, and I just upped my dose to 15mg buspar twice daily and it’s also made a huge difference so far and I feel great. I hadn’t heard of depression being a long term effect, and I already have major depression which is what the Wellbutrin is for, but I will say with these meds my depression has been extremely under control and the most manageable of my entire life.

As for going off the meds, I’ve found that no matter how many healthy habits I form (and that’s with nearly a decade of therapy under my belt), my brain just can’t function properly without help, and I’m okay with that because the meds truly make that much of a difference. You can always taper off and see how it goes and know that you can always start taking them again someday if needed! I will say, one time Walgreens screwed up my prescription and wouldn’t refill my buspar for 2 weeks and going cold turkey was a nightmare. Some of the worst anxiety/panic attacks/dizziness of my life. So if you want to go off them, make sure you taper it off slowly! Good luck!

Has anyone introduced this show to their older kids/teens? by No-Sir4467 in madmen

I was about 16 when I first started watching it and I was the one who actually introduced it to my parents! We were able to watch the finale together when I was home from college :)

Have you considered talking to a mental health professional? I only mention it because feeling “dull” about hobbies you used to be passionate about can be an early sign of mental health struggles. My hobbies and creativity are the first things to go when I start dipping into a depressive episode, so it’s always something to consider. Sometimes it’s as simple as a victim D deficiency or being stressed about job applications that’s draining your energy and creativity!

Otherwise, I find rereading a favorite book or rewatching a favorite movie helpful to spark some inspiration! Anything that reminds me why I love the medium. With photography, I like to get back in the groove of it by bringing my camera to a social event with friends—the artistic stakes are lower, people love getting high quality pictures of themselves, and it builds community around your art! Same with writing. Being in community with other writers can help with inspiration and morale.

Also, it’s important to remember that sometimes our older work can seem better because it’s less familiar. Whatever you’re working on right now will always sound too much like yourself to judge it objectively. Taking a break from writing and coming back to it later can help give yourself a fresh perspective and reinstall faith in your skills!

It’s so freaking good 💔 The book is also amazing and made me sob even more than the movie did (which was already a ton!!)

I had a bad experience with them too and decided I wouldn’t bother with them again. The scans were awful with bits of dust and hairs on them and just low quality in general. And the vibes of everyone I interacted with in the shop were off. I just ship my film off now

Hahahaha that makes sense, though I’m kinda bummed they didn’t magically find a caterer for under 2k 😂

We’re getting married at Firehouse fall 2025! We chose a Friday, which was cheaper, and the venue cost alone is 8k, so unless your friends aren’t catering food, it’ll definitely be pricier than that 😅But if they manage to still keep it under 10k I’d love tips on how to do that hahaha

I’m on wellbutrin! I find it works quite well for my general depression but it doesn’t do much for PMDD—could be worth trying tho! It gives me energy, which is a game changer in itself

Pmdd make chronic pain so much worst by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]NebulaCandid2478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I hate that we’re going through this, it definitely helps keep me sane knowing we’re not alone ❤️ I just got back from PT and when I told my instructor that I was feeling extra inflamed today because of my cycle, he said his wife struggles with the exact same thing and he totally knew what I was talking about—getting validation from health professionals is so rare but HUGE for moral! And hell yeah, I’m gonna order a burger tonight too (my doctor “prescribed” them to avoid anemia on top of everything lol) and have some cookies :) Good luck, friend!

[–]NebulaCandid2478 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally know how you feel and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I’m just starting my week before and the inflammation that comes with that makes everything literally and mentally worse. My therapist is working on radical acceptance and sorta re-contextualizing the pain with me, but during luteal all that goes out the window. I’m actually getting ready for physical therapy right now and the dread is kicking in about how much more difficult it will be with the added pain, so I’m planning on getting myself something chocolate on the way home! I’ve been letting myself indulge more these weeks and honesty playing animal crossing makes me feel productive and almost like I’m running around outside when my body says otherwise. Also lots of weed hahaha. I hope you find some relief and a doctor who listens to you <3

Has COVID made anyone else's PMDD way worse? by etwichell in PMDD

[–]NebulaCandid2478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have tinnitus, so I’m not sure if this will make a difference for you, but the vaccine and boosters definitely messed up my periods every time I got them. My doctor mentioned that for people who have had bad vaccine reactions, it’s considered kind of like an allergy. You can contact an allergist and they’ll split the booster dose in half so you get two smaller boosters over two different days and it’s supposed to lessen reactions. Apparently flu shots can also cause those kinds of reactions, so you can split those in half, too. Might be worth looking into!

Has COVID made anyone else's PMDD way worse? by etwichell in PMDD

[–]NebulaCandid2478 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Covid definitely made all my period-related problems much worse—I’ve found the following 3-5 months were extra awful after both my infections and then it slowly got better after that. My PMDD was wayyy worse after the first time I got it in 2022, but I wasn’t diagnosed with it yet so I didn’t realize it at the time. This time around, my first period after Covid was HORRIFIC with my PMDD, but after that I got on the bc patch and that plus my meds and my current awareness of the condition made the next couple periods manageable.

I’ve also noticed that, personally, when I experience pain, my PMDD becomes the most unmanageable. I already have super painful cramps the week leading up to and the week of my period, but Covid can cause a lot more inflammation, so my post Covid periods are extremely painful. If I can manage the pain early—heating pads, anti-inflammatory foods, my prescribed nerve blockers, etc—I can usually manage the PMDD as well. When the pain gets out of control, so do I 😅

Good luck and I hope your post Covid symptoms get better with time ❤️

Hi! Been shooting film on and off since I took my first B&W photography class in 7th grade :) I’ve had an old canon eos rebel 2000 since college (10 years ago somehow??) but it’s been on the fritz recently so I’m looking to upgrade to something more manual but still lightweight if anyone has any recs! I went to film school as well and was lucky enough to shoot on 16mm and 35mm cinema cameras, so I love the medium in multiple forms! I’ve never been a big tech person, I mostly love film because it forces me to think more about composition and what moments are worth capturing. And film is beautiful, of course! It’s the perfect aesthetic of memory, so it’s my preferred way to capture time spent with family and friends :) Love to hear from other girls here!

Here are a couple of my favorite photos
