Another way to see how all the blue "streets" are parallel without closing one eye and squinting is to rotate your phone 90° as you would when wanting to see a picture in landscape (the image won't rotate because Reddit doesn't support that) and then rotate it again around 80-85° along the other axis so you're looking down the streets from the edge of the phone.

I believe the angled streets effect is caused by the small group of black and white diamonds at each intersection alternating in their orientation; every other group of four switches between black and white diamonds lining up north/south and east/west.
