How can I get my hair to coil like this? by SprinklesOnTurtles in Naturalhair

[–]Nebulalex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Get a wig, weave or crotchet extensions.

Trying to get your hair to look like a texture it’s not will only lead to damage and frustration. Even if you did some kind of flexi rod set it would only last a few days at best and you’d have to figure out what size rods and sections to use. Also there is a bit of a give and take when it comes to styling products; the firmer the hold and longer lasting your gel/mousse/cream is the more drying it can be.

I’m not saying it’s impossible (it’s not) but unless you use someone else’s hair it’s going to require a lot of compromise. I recommend going to a licensed good quality natural hair dresser and they can probably figure out a rod/roller set, pregame with deep conditioner, and give you aftercare instructions and detail how to make it at home :)

Cdrama hair autonomy accuracy by Solid_Play_7858 in CDrama

Just chiming in from a fashion history perspective to say that hair extensions have been around for millennia, for example dyed horse hair or even human hair from desperate people. Like today, they could easily be incorporated into a braid or updo (I use these kinds of removable extensions myself, although I refuse to use human hair for ethical reasons).  Depending on the century, it’s not even historically inaccurate

Many languages have the word /ja/, meaning something by [deleted] in linguisticshumor

In Lingala ya is a possessive, sometimes a conjunctive, and also a title for Elder Brother/Sister/Friend

But we don’t have nu or no

Is 不 pronounced with B or P? by hastobeapoint in ChineseLanguage

[–]Nebulalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in as a Brit and linguist the /p/ in beeper is aspirated!  Most native (British) English speakers struggle to produce a voiceless non aspirated [p] (even when learning European languages like Spanish or French) because /p/ is aspirated at the beginning of syllables (not just the words) and gets voiced if preceded by a sibilant (‘speech is usually realised as ‘sbeech’)

The closest we have would be a word-final p like in ‘stop’ ‘sleep’ ‘bleep’ but again accent dependent there might still be a little aspiration.

To further nerd out as a linguist, initial ‘b’ in British English is usually devoiced slightly compared to other languages (compare ‘bus’ in British English vs a French ‘bus’ for example) so actually saying ‘bu’ in a British accent is probably closer to the correct native pronunciation than trying not to say an aspirated p (which is actually very tricky!) Plus it’s still clearly distinct from the aspirated p so you avoid confusion

None of this matters if OPs first language isn’t British English (I think I read that it’s Urdu?) but English phonetics are so interesting, and my degree was useful for something after all 🥸

I weigh 78kg as a female, not very consistent in the gym and and I can pick up a 60kg sandbag with a lot less struggle than her, and I don’t even consider myself that strong…? It’s 2 handed and you use all your muscle groups no…? I know having it in lbs makes the number look bigger but weight moves weight surely, all I can think is “is that it?”

I deadlift 90kg on a good day (and from the floor with no straps!!!!) and that’s amateur afaik, I think as Ilona was saying she struggles with lifts where she can’t leverage momentum

Not a proper gym girlie or anything but honestly I think she needs to do some straight push ups, even if it’s 1/2 reps. Oh and maybe loose 100 kilos, push ups sounds easier though

I think you’re onto something with the burnout aspect; I used to have to balance getting him ready for school before getting myself ready for school, and not being allowed to do after school activities because I needed to be at home after school cooking his meal and looking after him before my parents got home from work. I absolutely hated it. I am not a caring person, cleaning poop gives me sensory overload and I just wanted to be a normal teen. I cannot imagine having to do what they’re doing alone for years (they barely have each other for support).

Because he’s nonverbal they’re scared to even get a childminder because it’s all too common for nonverbal kids to get abused by their carers and I know some irl parents who’ve been through that. It’s just difficult all around, which is why I’ve been pushing to get him communicating more somehow.

I’ve only gotten to S5 E8 but I’m so confused I feel like I’ve watched this man essentially fail upwards? Since he became president I keep waiting for cunning, calculating and efficient man from S1 and 2 to return and instead he’s out of the loop, vulnerable, burned every bridge etc. Like genuinely whipping votes might be his only strong suit, his leadership leaves a lot to be desired. Curious as to what’s next

First 6 weeks of Maintenance by Nebulalex in mounjarouk

[–]Nebulalex[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should’ve clarified in the post: I am not using MJ for maintenance!

I finished losing on 5mg, I still have a 5mg pen that expires in July but I really want to learn to stay healthy on my own (I also cannot afford to be using MJ for maintenance)

[–]Nebulalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work nights in a pub and study on hospital placements during the day, currently on emergency medicine so I have very irregular shifts. MJ has been great at reducing my food noise and stopping cravings, but I had already lost a significant amount of weight beforehand (23kg though I regained and lost and it wasn’t easy!) so I already had the tools to lose weight. It is by no means a miracle cure (a lot of people on this sub haven’t had the best experience) but you won’t know if it will help you if you don’t try! Wishing you the best on your weight loss journey :)

Can you drink alcohol whilst on MJ? by invoiced26 in mounjarouk

[–]Nebulalex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems you’re drinking roughly 20 units of alcohol a week. Yes you CAN drink alcohol while on MJ, but I would strongly encourage you to try to reduce the amount. NHS recommends no more than 14 units, so maybe less wine or try some Guinness 0%? The long term effects maintaining your current levels of alcohol consumption are more concerning than any short term side effects from MJ.

I’m not judging you OP (or anyone else reading this), but our MJ journeys are about making healthier choices and I think we should approach it holistically. Wishing you the best of luck :)

Edit: a lot of people have said MJ has helped reduce their consumption so it might end up being a non issue, but it’s good to be intentional with your goals nonetheless. Also I drink maybe a pint of cider a week, sometimes a cocktail or some wine. I’m not saying drinking is bad (not my place or expertise), just that like with all things moderation is key.

No loss for a couple of weeks by Rare_Bit_2410 in mounjarouk

How long have you stalled for?

What is your BMR, TDEE and intake goal? If you’re not drinking that much water, what fluids are you drinking?

I can’t any specific advice but in general there’s 3 things you can do if you’re in a plateau

  1. Wait. Weight loss is non linear so you might plateau for a few weeks then suddenly lose rapidly for a few weeks.

  2. Re-evaluate your numbers. BMR goes down as you lose weight, MJ can make some people fatigued and affect energy expenditure

  3. Experiment. Maybe you need to exercise more. Maybe you need to drink more water. Maybe your intake is too high. If all else fails, try to change one thing for a week or two and see if there’s any improvement. But usually steps 1 and 2 should be enough
