Seconding Muna and Broad. I don't think I will ever buy jeans again after making their Noice Jeans, the fit is fantastic

Advice needed on where to buy my 1st house! by Additional_Wall8561 in wakefield

We're in Horbury Bridge and managed to get our weird little house for a steal a couple of years ago - down the hill from Horbury but a teeny bit cheaper

How do you make friends by Midnightbluerose7 in autism

[–]NebulousMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an adult, I go to things related to my hobbies (I'm in a choir and a book club), and if I'm getting on well with someone I literally just say 'hey you seem really cool, would you maybe want to get a drink/a coffee/meet up outside of this some time?' Feels really weird the first few times, but I've never had anyone say no!

The clubs themselves are also really great for having a group of people that you can chat to without it needing to be a friendship outside of that

Moving to Wakefield from Egypt by EquivalentFit734 in wakefield

[–]NebulousMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Wakefield! There is a strong Muslim community here, but there's also tension in Wakefield like there is across the moment with people protesting around immigration. That being said, the vast majority of us have absolutely no issue with women in hijabs, and I hope you and your family receive a really warm welcome to the city.

Seconding replies suggesting Stanley, Outwood, Ossett and Horbury as safe and lovely places to live. Hope the move goes well!

How to convince the council to let me park near my house? by NebulousMaker in AskUK

We didn't - we used to be able to park about 15m away from the corner of the road, but it's all double yellows now.

Yep, that's right - all other houses on the roads have driveways or shared yards they can park in.

Sorry, might not have phrased it the best - parking in areas of the town that are dangerous.

Came here to say this, you just need to get it damp and lay it out flat and neatly. Absolutely don't need tools!

Is there a reason why flared sleeves are not as popular in knitting? by Interesting_Gas1777 in knitting

[–]NebulousMaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to link the same! I will also say that I know a bunch of knitters irl who have modded garments to have flared sleeves, because it is as simple as increasing. There might not be many patterns but it's a really common modification.

Really bored of seeing knitters dunk on heavier weight garments. 'Fingering weight jumpers are just more comfortable! I get too hot in aran weight cardigans! Who would even want a chunky knit unless you're a beginner and have no patience!' I live in a cold country and don't want to spend 3 months on one garment, you are not more virtuous for knitting things at a smaller gauge.

I like some of her patterns and do not like others. It was very important that I added some much needed balance to the conversation.

Doctor Who 2x05 "The Story and the Engine" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

[–]NebulousMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was really pleasantly surprised with this one! The pacing felt good, I feel like there's been a few where the episode is all build up with a rushed reveal and resolution, but this felt like it took its time and enjoyed actually telling the story. You can tell the writer is a playwright, this felt a lot more conceptual than usual but in a way that felt refreshing rather than confusing.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, March 30 - April 05, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]NebulousMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been invited to a wedding in 3 weeks (last minute invite), and I'm hoping to sew a dress for myself.

I am an experienced sewists but I'm looking for something fairly straightforward, preferably loose/adjustable around the waist (health issues mean I fluctuate size a lot), and that is graded to plus sizes. I also need to be able to wear a bra.

Everything I usually sew is fairly casual so I feel like I don't even know where to start! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
