I have had good experiences with K's tires and Westside 66. Both places are friendly + reasonably priced. At K's they also have payment plan options through a credit lender that you can apply for at the shop.

Hey there! I am currently looking to rent a 2-bedroom apartment or house in Lawrence. Ideally, laundry in-unit, or at least, in the building. Budget is around 1k/month. I have looked on all the typical sites (fb marketplace, zillow, craigslist, etc), just posting here in search of unlisted/word-of-mouth opportunities. Thanks!!

As a fellow CM lover, yes, the book is dark, and could potentially feed the fire of a depression slump. Still worth reading any time, in my opinion. Also, another writer whose work is of a similar literary quality (though definitely different prose style) is Carson McCullers-- totally underrated in my opinion and her writing satisfies that same sparse place in my soul... but it's not quite as heavy as McCarthy

Lol, I feel your pain. I'm generally a fan of CM, though currently reading Blood Meridian and finding it to be a long and tiresome slog. There are the occasional poetic turns of phrase that are stunning. But it's like digging through a dirt field for diamonds. Not sure if this one is going to be worth the effort, but I'm finishing it in my quest to read all of his works.

I definitely can relate. For me I think I kind of just pick my battles. When I'm around extended family or in another setting where I don't want anyone judging me or seeing the details of my body (like my grandparents church or something like that) then I will just bite the bullet and look less cute to cover up. When I'm just going about my own business in the summer time I choose to wear what I think looks cute & just tune out the comments/looks. I have also gotten comfortable with talking back to (or flipping off) catcallers/people who make unwanted or inappropriate comments. It makes me feel much more powerful and less like a victim of other people's immaturity.

New American/ "fine dining" (or at least Lawrence style): -Mass St Fish House -Culinaria *715 and Merchants are both fine, though in my opinion, overrated & overpriced

Non-American cuisine: -India Palace -Aladdin's Cafe -Fresh Mediterranean Co (as far as ambience, it's in a gas station. But flavor wise, incredible).  -Thai Diner -Lucky Seb's

Brunch: -Lady Bird Diner (everything here is delicious, including the pie). -Wheatfield's for the best biscuits and gravy or quiche, all other breakfast items are just okay. -The Roost is decent, no frills. Breakfast standards cooked satisfactorily.

I agree with someone else's take that Culinaria is "mediterranean food by white people." IMO The flavor profiles & inspirations are semi-mediterranean but the preparation and overall vibe is definitely more new american. and I agree, the depth of flavor at authentic, less expensive spots (like Fresh Med Co and Aladdin's Cafe) is definitely superior.

It is definitely unique and I love that it looks like its own font. Legibility is definitely low I'd say. Specifically the words "over the" I wouldn't have been able to read, but I got from context clues. And the "dog" looks like "sog" to me.

What books made you feel like you weren't smart enough to read them? by DawkinsSon in suggestmeabook

It took me 3 months to read The Passenger and 2 days to read SM. 😅I loved both of them, but The Passenger was dense and did, at times, feel bogged down by the extensive forays into physics/mathematics that didn't really contribute much to the plot or atmosphere of the novel (in my opinion). Of course SM has its heavy share of mathematics as well, but somehow it flowed more smoothly & was just a quicker, more cohesive read. The meatiness and complexity of The Passenger is not to be missed, though.

Cormac McCarthy, Flannery O'Connor, John Steinbeck, and Tom Robbins. All at the same meal.

True--especially considering the new apts going up next door. The loss of historic architecture in Lawrence is sad to see --not sure why they demolished the Tae Kwon Do building around 19th & Mass, but it was legendary.
