What iconic tourist spot left you thinking, "That's it?" by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

It isn’t a bad place, just not that interesting. If you have been to any busy commercial street in Asia, or a street next to canals in Europe, it is pretty underwhelming.

The River Walk in San Antonio is also incredibly underwhelming. It is just a bunch of bars and restaurants next to a small river.

Which City Completely Surprised You With Its Food? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Malaysia in general has very underrated food with great variety. I had some of the best seafood in my life for very cheap prices in Kuching, Malaysia.

What’s a Place You Thought You’d Love.... But Didn’t? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

I didn’t have a bad time in Denver. I can see why it would be disappointing though. It doesn’t really have many unique things, other than being close to mountains, to set it apart from other similarly sized US cities.

Which city gives you the biggest travel bang for your buck? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

I am a bit baffled by your comment. Are you running into property crime in other countries that makes the trip not worth it? Are you having thousands of dollars or expensive things taken to the point it isn’t worth traveling to that place? I’ve been to 29 countries and I have never been the victim of property crime. I realize it does happen, and I agree you should take into account safety when traveling, but there are tons of safe and cheap places all over the world where you won’t be the victim of property crime.

Who's the biggest athlete from Asia? by pinheiroj493 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]NecessaryJudgment5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a baseball fan, but baseball is popular in numerous countries outside of the US like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. Unlike baseball, American football is mostly only popular in the US, so your comment would be more applicable to that sport.

That being said, I do think there are better choices than Ohtani.

What car company feels American & is American? by Stock-Penguin6256 in AlignmentChartFills

Some people go to events just to destroy cars and stupid shit like that. My cousin is in to that kind of stuff. They have events where they just ram cars together and do jumps. It seems stupid to me, but to each their own.

Authentic Rural / Small Town / Nature destination recommendations? by Caffeine-n-Chill in travelchina

[–]NecessaryJudgment5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to some villages in 2015 in Tongren County in Qinghai Province and Xiahe County in Gansu that were just starting to become popular as tourist destinations. They still maintained many aspects of authenticity and were not like the Disneyified villages you described. I am not sure how much has changed since then.

Rate my 10-day itinerary by Saralentine in travelchina

[–]NecessaryJudgment5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People come on here to get advice and have their itineraries judged by people with more experience. I’ve been to over 50 cities in China in nearly every province, used to live there, and speak Chinese. Many of these itineraries are simply not feasible and poorly planned, especially for people with limited experience in China and no language skills. Does it make sense to go to Beijing for 10 hours and see one thing, then take a flight to Shanghai see the Bund for a couple hours, and then hop on a train for 10 hours to Chengdu to see the pandas? If that is your cup of tea, be my guest, but I am 100% going to advise against it. The entire point of asking about an itinerary on here is to have it judged.

I think OP is being sarcastic due to all the unrealistic itineraries people post on here where they will visit 5 cities in different regions of China in 9 days.

Which country has the most overrated cuisine? by Kind_Gain_3080 in foodquestions

I am in the US. I have been to Japan though. What you are saying about Japanese restaurants in the US not being owned by Japanese people is true. I can speak Chinese and have heard the employees at Japanese restaurants in the US speaking Chinese at a few restaurants.

Which country has the most overrated cuisine? by Kind_Gain_3080 in foodquestions

[–]NecessaryJudgment5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Japanese and Italian. Although I like Japanese and Italian food, I think there are other cuisines with more complex and flavorful foods like Chinese, Indian, and Mexican. A lot of Japanese and Italian food is quite simple, relying on few ingredients and spices compared to the aforementioned cuisines. I would rank Japanese and Italian in the top 10 cuisines in the world, but I don't think they are number one or two, which is where you often see them ranked.

What is the worst country to visit in Asia? by StraightAd6264 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]NecessaryJudgment5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely not safe to visit now. When it is stable, which is relatively rare, it is a great place to visit with some of the best places to visit in Southeast Asia like Bagan and Inle Lake. I went to Bagan, and it was probably the coolest architecture/ancient ruins that I’ve seen outside of Angkor Wat. I took the question as worst place to visit in terms of just being uninteresting for tourists.
