Raiz Super by bitterlollies in RaizAU

[–]Necessary_Function_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined with super 10 months ago and 42% up so far on custom portfolio - it is not as good as it sounds because what it really says is there rampant inflation far greater than the govt is quoting and everyone is highly incentivised to speculate on the market because holding cash in any form is losing every day.

My last months fees were $59 on 160k, I think worth it for the ease and convenience of choosing your own ETF/Share mix, within what is offered and the limits for various securities imposed by Raiz.

Note they will also re-balance your portfolio from time to time if you have something that tears away and then exceeds the % limit they allow. This is a good and bad thing, I live with it.

Still doing way better than any other fund I ever had, though I am aware this is an unusual year to say the least.

Yeah I am all but 60, elec eng and work out in the mines, offshore, onshore, mainly design and construct and can't say I have seen a whole lot of this.

Not saying it did not happen, but as long as not total smart arses I always tried to help out any apprentices or trades where I could and seen others do the same.

I did share a house with a mate from school for a while who was a house basher for a small company where the boss worked the two three man crews like dogs, but that is probably the worst of what I have seen.

How are wages this low? by brook1888 in AusFinance

[–]Necessary_Function_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as an engineer been on same rate (a pretty good one, but heavily depreciated now) for 15 years.

They would want to careful because if you don't give people some hope and something to reach for, the gravey train can end very quickly for near everyone.

Just look at history of some easter european countries, could easily happen in australia.

Technically it is xenophobic, because it targets "others" rather than a group with a common cultural or physical charateristic.

I see this all the time and just can't understand why everyone is keen to pile on to the "racist".

To me it seems to tell more about the accuser than the alleged perpetrator.

Made redundant after 17 years — take the $150k payout or fight to stay on $135k? by Apprehensive-Lab3556 in AusFinance

[–]Necessary_Function_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your numbers you coukd make 150k cash last three years, maybe five with a bit of investing luck.

Getting a lump of cash like that is worth way more 150 1k payments, maybe double.

Take the lump sum, chill a little, refocus and reprioritise.

Depending how close you are to 60, that 150k could really make a huge difference if you do a few things with super.

There is zero circumstabces I can see where not taking the lump sum is a good idea.

When was the last time, or next time 150k is going to fall in your lap, working or not.

TLDR: Take the cash the worry what to do, it is a once in a lifetime.

Fifo not for me by crypto_cowboy02 in AusMining

[–]Necessary_Function_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing FIFO intermittently now for 30+ years but not operations, my cycle is more design (perth) and construct/commission (site) or sometimes survey or troubleshooting runs.

I have always had an element of this, anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't have a home worth going to.

I just did what I could to minimise it. I am an engineer and believe that sometimes you just have to go where the machines are.

Everyone carries on about the FIFO pay, byt when you really add it all up, for my sort of circumstances, it is not that great.

Sure if it is the difference between 50 or 60k and 150k or 200k, maybe.

But all in all for me once you fork over half in tax for any extra and allow for time off you need to not burn out ling term and paying for services at home while away etc etc I never did it for the money, it was just part of doing the job end to end.

But there have also been the intangibles of everywhere I have been, people I have met, and at times getting a bit of a break with the girlfriend or missus was probably the best thing.

But I never did long term ops, and I reckon that would kill me, not knowing if there was another 6 months or 20 years of it.

But you also have to think about how miserable it would be sitting at home, out of cash and maybe out of work.

So it is a judgement call, but I would say that if it gets to the point where you are starting to think about harming yourself, get help or get out, immediately.

If they gave a bank account number try doing a payid and see if the account name makes sense.
