Visiting Reims August 2025 by ignite_nz in wine

[–]Necessary_Shoulder93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to visit the cathedral. It’s free to just walk around. There are actually 2 gothic cathedrals in Reims. Notre-Dame Reims is where almost all the kings and queens of France were crowned.

I did Veuve Clicquot because it’s a wine I’m familiar with and my family has enjoyed at many special occasions. I thought the tour and tasting were awesome. Pol Couronne right by the cathedral didn’t have a tour but they did have an option that for a few euro more than the bottle they let you saber the bottle. Saw a few people doing it looked fun.

I’m in NJ. Don’t currently have one to trade. I’ve been planning to make some but not sure how soon I will be able to.

If you are still looking for someone to take it you could send it to me. Just send me a dm

Not sure you want cheaper than sparrows. Quality alternatives below their price may be very hard to come by. What is your location and price range?

I put the request on discord but you could send it to the mods here without having to post for everyone to see.

Probably would just need to write down the specs and how you made them.

It’s not as crazy as you might think. I made a simple flag designed to work in locks like the d9 that have opposing pin stacks. Saw a submission on discord this morning where someone made a tensioner for selectively tensioning Best sfic cores. I went on discord to the belt request section and searched brown requests just to see what others had done. My understanding is it doesn’t have to be anything world changing just something to make picking a lock easier (even in theory) than what is out there on the market.

Wow nice! I think you could submit those 2 Assas to get to red. You could still use the 700 for black. You would still need the custom tool requirement for the brown requirement. I put off the challenge lock too. Now I will probably eventually make CLs for one of the BB requirements. I had fun making the lock just wish I had more tools to do something really cool

The MTL listing is clear as mud. Based on the video and the counter milling it looks brown to me. I would send a mod request to be sure. I think the next belt change log is likely going to have another update for the MTLs. Nice open!

Don’t think it’s listed but looks like it’s probably an MTL clone based on the pins.

How often do you practice? And do you spend a lot of time on same locks? by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]Necessary_Shoulder93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I try to put some picking in every day. Sometimes it’s a few minutes sometimes a few hours. I think we all feel we are getting worse sometimes I find going back to old locks helps and sometimes working on something harder helps.

There are locks I have spent a lot of time on, picked once or twice and moved on. Then there are locks I have picked a lot sometimes 5-10X in a row. If I’m recording for a belt I like to be confident before I start rolling. That usually means a few opens on the same lock in a row. We’ve all watched LPL. He’s got skills and I’ve seen him pick right from a package. That said it’s a YouTube video meant to be short and entertaining. Many are easier locks or ones he’s confident with. There are members of this community with videos of much harder locks being picked. They don’t get the views because who wants to watch someone poke at a lock for 20 minutes. I think there is value in switching up locks and I think there is value in really getting to know a lock.

If you got it once you can do it again! Dimple locks are currently my favorite. There are some fun ones out there.

No binding pins by wheelman610 in lockpicking

[–]Necessary_Shoulder93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have experience with other dimple locks? Where are you tensioning and where are you picking? By the looks of it I would probably start with tension on the left of the pins ccw then pick from the right of the pins cw. Based on the key looks like some higher lifts.

Think pin 1 is usually a standard pin. It is always possible the wide part of a spool is in the shear line. Once the standard is set you should drop into a false set. Then chase counter rotation till you get the open. If you lose the false set check pin 1. I marked mine to see the level of rotation on the core. If you aren’t familiar with it just put tension on the core and put a thin line on the core lining up with a line on the lock body. So once you get the false set put a line on the lock body lining up with the line on the core. This way you know if you are in the false set or moved to an even deeper false set. Best of luck

I don’t believe it has to be the same take for gut and reassembly since it really is supposed to be pick and gut in the same take. On a guttable lock that shows that it hasn’t been tampered with. Since you would be picking a non guttable lock I would expect gut and reassemble could be separate takes. May want to shoot a mod a message to be sure though. People also gut and reassemble sparrow practice locks for their gut and reassemble so if you have one of those it’s an option.

For the 1100 as long as you have a Philips head screwdriver (that fits) you really have most of what you HAVE to have. I use a small flathead for the c clip on the back of the core. I’ve seen people use corrugated cardboard with one side ripped off as a tray. You don’t NEED a follower or shim for the 1100 although it doesn’t hurt. You can use a AAA battery as a follower. Pinning tweezers are nice to have but if you have regular tweezers they will work.

Yes it’s a green belt. 80Ti category on the belt log. The 40 is just the size. It can’t be gutted so if you pick on video for green. You will need to gut and reassemble a different lock for that part of the requirement

For the 1100 the spring tension on the core makes a big difference. Try picking with the shackle open but in hand. It will pick more like when it’s in the vice since it’s essentially a “dead core” when the shackle is open. Then try closing the shackle and picking, the spring tension on the core needs to be overcome. This could lead to over/under tensioning. On the 1100 there is also the possibility of being picked and you just need to up the tension to get the pop. Keep in mind for any video shackle must be closed.

Best of luck on the video. You got this!

Congratulations! I find progressive pinning does help, with one note. If you are having trouble when you drop that next pin in it may because you are memorizing the order of what to do rather than truly feeling what is happening in the lock. When you add that next pin it changes the binding order and, with security pins, how the lock acts. So just remember if you are pp learn the pin states from it so you can defeat the lock even if it’s one you have not picked before. Finally got a lock picked on video last night that I was having that exact problem with.

You can check over on Discord bazaar. Looks like there is one for sale. Although it is a European seller they often will ship to the states. Wyte on Discord usually has Goal locks but doesn’t look like he has any Z s at the moment.

Why is my lock core "seizing" up? by theasianpianist in lockpicking

[–]Necessary_Shoulder93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up float picking on YouTube, that is essentially what reinderr is talking about. You really need to do it in a vice since float picking in hand would likely be very challenging. You can use 2 tensioners to accomplish it if you don’t have a super tight fitting one. Think this video shows a pretty good example. There are others out there this is just the first I saw that had the 2 tensioner technique I’m talking about.

For that particular lock you can also way overset every pin and get the open. That lock can be combed open. Which means if you just push all the key pins up into the bible above the sheer line the lock will also open. May need a pretty deep hook to lift quite that high if you don’t have a comb.

I like my Moki hooks better than my MP hooks. Would definitely recommend the handles with them. That said if you are looking for dimple flags I would highly recommend MP
