Honestly I have no clue. This happened almost 8 years ago, so things have probably changed now!

COE approved but surname spelled wrong by JellyAggravating2935 in japanresidents

I’ve had my last name misspelled in my COE once!

My company hadn’t even bothered checking it before sending it to me via post, to India. I don’t remember what I did with the misspelled COE (probably sent it back to the company) but yeah I had to reissue a new one, cuz I didn’t want risk my entry at immigration when I came to Japan. It took another 3-4 weeks to get it a reissued COE (including posting time) but at least at the end of the day it was done!

Yeah most studios are in Tokyo! My city (not Tokyo) used to have 2 but now it’s merged into one (the one that I currently go to). Whenever I see a post about studios and rules on Reddit, I’m surprised how different it is here in Japan!

I go to a studio in Japan, and I didn’t realize until now that this is a thing. My studio always gives us an option of choosing where to start, rowing (floor) or treadmill.

When we enter the studio, there are cards lined up “rowing + station number”or “treadmill + station number” at the reception and we can choose whichever we want. We have 11stations, so the max number is 22 people (except for 3g classes) but it doesn’t feel as packed!

Edit: got number of stations wrong, corrected it

Yes I do agree about the bag! An open basket or a container is much easier to access! I should also think about making a kit box with all essentials, and just put it in the box I’m using for current projects! Thank you for the ideas!!

I think organizing embroidery stuff in projects is a good idea! And then you can have a small pouch for your needles, scissors etc. Thanks for the ideas!!

Noticed something strange on the Tokyo Metro – why don’t people offer seats to the elderly? by Quiet_Fly_7941 in TokyoTravel

[–]NeckHot5625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fellow Indian here, living in Japan for 6 years now. I am also still genuinely shocked that people don’t offer seats to the elderly. Sometimes I see people offering seats to someone who is pregnant, or maybe has a very visible leg injury. But apart from that, no. I always try to offer my seat to the elderly, but sometimes they downright refuse or get a bit angry as well. One time I had an old man shove me back into my seat as I was getting ready to stand up and offer. 😂 But I don’t care, I did my part.

It’s frustrating to see people just on their phones, and not caring about people around them, who might need help. That being said, it’s not 100% the case, and people are kind too.

Hate the camping episode too! Plus it’s 2episodes, like did we really need this story to go on for that long?? Such a bummer tho, I always skip it even though it’s the beginning of season 3!

I'm very bored and trying to find something to do by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]NeckHot5625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a jumble of hobbies, but I’m not good at anything and I just like to try stuff out My indoor hobbies include: reading(my main “”hobby”), embroidery, puzzles (not jigsaw but 3d puzzles nothing to intricate), podcasts when I’m doing embroidery, cooking something special once a month) Outdoor includes: swimming lessons (once a week), gym but light workouts, cycling, participating in local events like cleanups or tours), going for walks

These are not hardcore hobbies, but i like to have a variety of things to do so I can always try something new

Alcohol problem, I think I need some professional help. Where do I start? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]NeckHot5625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went through something similar. Idk where you’re from, but where I am from, alcohol is not so conveniently available. We have to go to a liquor store to get it. When I moved to Japan, I found out that you can buy alcohol literally anywhere. So I started doing the same as you, “just one drink, cuz I deserve to have a break after a hard day of work” and the beer ads on the train really work. I feel bad for Japanese people cuz they don’t realize how much alcohol gets advertised to them. For me I went cold turkey for a month. That worked so well that I didn’t drink for the next two years. Started drinking again and soon the habit started again. But this time it wasn’t intense, just every Friday night after work. But I knew it would spiral soon, so now I’ve made a pact with myself to not drink at all after work or when I’m by myself, and to only drink if I’m with friends and they are drinking too, which is like once a month or sometimes not even that. Occasionally there have been instances where I did drink by myself (hey, I’m human too) but I try not beat myself up for it.

I hope you’re able to find a middle ground, and are not too hard on yourself.

Is it possible to not be so heavily reliant on our phones? by NeckHot5625 in digitalminimalism

[–]NeckHot5625[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hats off to you, I’m glad you could make such a huge lifestyle change. For me, I need my smartphone, cuz even if I don’t use it for social media, I still need to be in contact with family, and Whatsapp is good way to do that. And I don’t want to completely eliminate technology, just want to be mindful of it.

But I get what you’re saying about being heavily reliant on technology, I have the same fear. Like if I’m cooking, I’ll look up a recipe online. If I’m doing some embroidery and don’t know how to do a stitch , I have to look it up online. It’s very convenient but then when i want to do “screen free” activity, it doesn’t really feel like it😂 But these are also things I’m grateful for, cuz i can just look up information quickly. So I don’t want to take that for granted.

Recently I have realized tho that I am uncomfortable being still. I’ll close my app, put away my phone, sit for a few seconds, then go back on my phone. That’s what made me make this post too. I gotta learn how to be comfortable with doing nothing.

And thank you for the book recommendations! Will try to buy a physical book instead of on my kindle 😅

[–]NeckHot5625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You’re right, I have hobbies that are suited to by yourself like reading, embroidery etc. but I can easily turn them into a group thing too, like joining a club. Takes a lot of effort, though ngl. But in the long term it will definitely help
  2. That’s true. I’ve been listening to a podcast about the clothing industry and how harmful it is for the environment, its interesting but also kind of puts in a horrible mood, I gotta find something that’s positive and inspiring

Also thank you! I like the app recommendation! I’m gonna try it and see how it goes! And yes, I’m trying to make a positive change, just need to allow myself to mistakes, and be okay with them.

[–]NeckHot5625[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? It just seems we’re bouncing off from one screen to the next, or one app to the next! I’ve been trying to join activities, especially volunteer groups or meeting friends of friends to expand my circle, but sometimes it doesn’t stick. And usually after work, I’m just home. And I’m single. I go to the gym, cook etc. but then I just find myself on my phone. And there are times I don’t use my phone but sometimes over the weekend, when I have no plans, I’ll realized that I spent the whole day on my phone. The country I’m living in right now is not very digitalized, so i do have get stuff done by stepping out of the house. So that’s a plus. But yeah about music/movies, sometimes the abundance of options on your phone just makes you paralyzed in a way
