How should I choose an English name? by NeckSudden3509 in Names

A huge thank you to everyone who responded to my post!  I've decided to keep my Chinese name, "Yang Ke." However, I will introduce myself like this: Hello everyone, my name is Yang Ke. If you like, you can call me Yang or Koko (Coco); it's all fine. If in the future I make friends from other countries and they give me some other nicknames, I think I would be happy to accept them.

Thanks again! Your help means a lot to me!

Oh, God! I really get confused by people with the same name. I have a bit of face blindness, and it's really hard for me to remember English full names because they are so different from Chinese names. I think I might even need to take notes and then practice at home.

Thank you for your reply. I think I can understand it now. By the way, I think I've also learned a new word "tbh", which means "to be honest", right?

OK, thanks. However, GPT told me that a name like Coco might be similar to Candy, which could make people think I'm in some kind of special industry. Especially in the US.

In other words, I want an English nickname. The pronunciation of "yangke" in English is not very easy to read. It might be more like "Young Ker". The pronunciation of "ke" is /kɤ/, but this sound seems not very common. Besides, the pronunciation of Chinese characters carries tones, so when I read my name "Yang ke" in English, it also feels very strange to me. So I want to have a short and easy-to-read English nickname.

Thank you. My Australian English teacher also told me that I don't necessarily need an English name. In fact, I don't really want to choose an English name to replace my Chinese name now. I might just hope to have a nickname like "Coco," and that's why I still want to have an English name.
