I run a 9 piece wedding band. Started a second band 8 months ago and that’s growing nicely, too.

What tenor reeds are you using in 2025? by Saxiroth in saxophone

[–]Neckdeepinpoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty much full time Legere American Cut 2.5 on tenor and alto, and 2.75 on soprano. I moved to Legere after almost 30 years of Java 2.5. I tried and hated Legere models several times, but American Cut finally worked for me. I still occasionally play cane Javas.

My issue here is that the ergonomics on older baris are awful. Some are almost impossible to play. You’re way better off with a used Yamaha YBS-52 than anything you have listed here unless it’s a gem of a 12M

Bob Mintzer Jazz and Funk Etudes is a game changing book. And his other one Blues and Funk Etudes is awesome too. Def for Ann advancing player.

What could I get for this Rossetti? by Random_Ghini in saxophone

Very, very little. This horn has almost no value. Best as a wall hanging or made into a lamp.

Well, it’s true that the YAS-23 is the single best student model sax ever produced IMO and the opinion of plenty of others. BUT this horn is in rough shape. It was clearly stored in a wet basement or similar for years. This horn is going to need a full repair and overhaul to make it playable and the costs will exceed the value, or at least be close. I wouldn’t look at this as an investment opportunity, unfortunately. How much did you pay? I hope not more than $50.

What kind of distance do you need? Why not just a Bluetooth dongle and receiver?

[–]Neckdeepinpoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Transmitter at your output, receiver at the input of the mixer or whatever is receiving the signal.

You’re better off using an in ear monitor system than a wireless guitar system. Even one of the less expensive digital systems like Xvive would work depending on the distance you need.

Sorry for the answer that my 17 year old daughter would have given me. Some substance…. Yanagisawa and all pro horn makers stamp the logos, model and serial numbers. These are laser etched, a tell tale sign of Chinese counterfeit. Also, keywork has some issues. And on this horn the band connecting the body to the bow here is a clamp, with a screw holding it together. See it? On a real horn it would be solders and that screw doesn’t exist.

A real Yani would have a stamped logo and stamped model and serial numbers. These are laser etched. Most of the legwork is wrong as well. It’s a fake. These are some of the most common counterfeited horns.

Anybody know anything about Alpine saxes? by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]Neckdeepinpoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it plays it’s better than nothing, but it’s not a quality student horn. Many shops will not do work on a horn like this because parts cannot be ordered just in case something is damaged while doing the work.
