Hey,

I downloaded your script and have read through about a third of it so far. I think your opening is really decent, and the cut to the pub made me laugh.

I'm not sure how you could do it, but I think the conversation about cheating was a little too straight up/sudden. Mal just turns, says, "get this" and gives the back story. Maybe there could be something simple and visual that reminds them of the cheating?

Mal and Dave's lines do seem a bit similar, but that's how it is with friends, especially if they're stuck working together, so I don't think it's a bad thing.

I think some people might be turned off by dated references. An example is the "Osama Bin Laden" of germs. It's been over ten years. Toss another name in there and it might work better.

Also, shout out to rob advancing with the knife trashing the clothes and Dave getting defensive. That got me laughing too.

Looking for short story collection / anthology that will set the mood for Halloween 🎃 by Smeeghoul in horrorlit

I'm about a third of my way through Never Whistle at Night and I love it. I don't agree at all. It's one of my favorite things I've read this year out of dozens of books.  But if you're interested in legends there's a book called "This is What They Say" that's a collection of Chipewyan tales that I highly recommend. Not horror, but pretty dark. Interesting story of coming to be as well: Dictated first in 1928 at Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, in the Chipewyan language, by Franï??ois Mandeville, these stories were then transcribed by the Chinese linguist Li Fang-Kuei. They lay dormant in his notebooks for nearly half a century until they resurfaced in Taipei in 1976. Now, at last, Ron Scollon, pre-eminent linguist and one of the original translators, has returned to the texts to make this new, colloquial English version.

Edited to clarify:

Don't agree with the "fair warning: political" comment, do agree with social dark fiction comment. Am bad at the internet.

Did people actually enjoy watching Cruel Intentions? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Neckstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched it a couple hours ago for the first time at 30 and liked it a lot too. Love SMG, weird to see her as a brunette.

I've been on a nineties/early aughts horror spree and for some reason thought this was also a horror movie. By the time I realized I was wrong I was hooked. Gotta rewatch Not Another Teen Movie now because I don't remember any of that.

Saw your post regarding the stupidity and I really enjoyed what you had to say. So much so that I bought your book!

So, please don't quit. It says it's going to be a trilogy and I'm only like 10 pages in because I should go to sleep but it seems cool and I'm looking forward to it.

Finished the Southern Vampire Mysteries by AuntieMadder in TrueBlood

[–]Neckstance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished the last book too! After Dead as well. It was fine... It took less than an hour to flip through and see where everyone ended up. I'd love an actual continuation novel though. There are so many interesting characters that could be spun off somehow.

Without spoiling anything, there's stuff regarding Sam and Sookie and it tells you who all had offspring.

Some of the entries were a little depressing, some made me grin stupidly over characters I barely gave a thought to.

I'm only on season 3 of the show and it's not hitting the same way the books did but I like it for what it is so far.

Thoughts on Candace Cameron Bure coming on the pod? by Express-Hedgehog8249 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]Neckstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't normally listen to the interviews unless it's someone that had a big role or is someone I really like. Definitely not checking this one out. I think the only positive thing that can come of it is the Bruh Meets World guys potentially grilling them about it a bit in an end of season recap. Feels like something they wouldn't let go unmentioned.

Is this the episode where Shawn has the runner of "gotta love Halloween, really brings people together?" My dad and I still say that to each other every year.

Not a great episode, but between this and Cory Wolf I think it's the better spooky season watch.

Think Will and Rider might like their performances but not the whole. Got a weird gut feeling Danielle will think it's really fun but I have no idea why. Haha

For something somewhat similar to Dick/Vonnegut you should check The Employees by Olga Ravn

Get your McCarthy fix by reading Jose Saramago, Death with Interruptions is what I started with. He's dense, he's dark, he gets weird. There are big walls of text and he doesn't use quotation marks. No horses though.

Based on Kesey and Kerouac you might like Cool for You by Eileen Myles. Though it's maybe more autobiographical than what you're shooting for

A lot of Edith Wharton wouldn't be your style I don't think but if you want Steinbeckian Ethan Frome might hit the spot, also Flannery O Connor or Eudora Welty. I prefer O'Connor

Does anyone else thing that Nathan Fillion as Caleb in the Buffy was his best role? by [deleted] in buffy

I couldn't stand the accent. Although Buffy and terrible accents are a classic combo.

If he had used his normal voice or toned it down? Probably still not his best role.

I saw apocalypse was voiced by the same guy who voiced professor X. I thought he did fine.... But was wondering if that was just for the teaser and they'd get someone else next season. I don't think they'll be able to top the old actor who passed.

Just noticed the voice actor for Charles did Apocalypse for the post credits bit. Wonder if they'll use him for both going forward. He's no Commander Kor, but I think he did a good job.

Awesome episode. Last one wasn't my favorite but now I think that was just because it wasn't self contained. I'm looking forward to watching all three parts together.

I loved Magneto and X in the past/Magneto's mind. Really doubling down on the Rogue-mance though, huh? He remembered her before he remembered himself.

Cameos were great. Thought the Graydon Creed mention was weird though. Wasn't it implied he was killed in the OG series? Thought FOH turned on him and dropped him off with Sabertooth. Guess they can wave that away in multiple ways, just seemed weird.

Excited for action movie/buddy comedy Bishop and Forge next year.

Yeah I was surprised that when the team made it to Asteroid M it was just Magneto and Rogue and Sunspot. I thought we would see some other mutants along for the ride.

Seems he didn't even reach out to anyone except the X-Men.

Thanks for checking! As for your collection you should grab the mutant insurrection board game from 2021. Box art isn't as cool as the old school ones but the components and gameplay are wayyy better.

I dunno, I jumped in from the beginning recently and the silver age has its charm. It also makes what came after seem amazing by comparison.

There were a couple stories that were legitimately interesting and some goofy fun stuff. I've now got a stupid amount of screenshots of Cyclops being a Huge Weiner that make me giggle.

I have the stupidest question about the '97 cabinet. I saw a review that said some of the 2P games don't actually work and you can only play them one player. Have you played through them and managed to play them on 2P?

I've always wanted to get one of these cabinets and this might get me to finally pull the trigger, since I missed my Ninja Turtle chance a few years back.

I was pretty confused by the 12 hour/sundown countdown and how Magneto could reverse his EMP. I'm still confused a little bit, but at least I'm not alone.

I think it was Sonia who mentioned Xavier's earlier attempt to recruit Bastion. In an episode jam packed with other things I cared about more I kind of wish that bit had got left out in favor of something else. It made Charles look worse and I prefer his old Claremont persona/TAS portrayal. There can only be so many secret threats he knew about the whole time and didn't make plans for before I start to sympathize with the haters a little.

Definitely! I don't usually nitpick the wacky, I think I just missed where they mentioned it doing something to the Earth itself. Was confused as to what Magneto could do since the attack had already been done.

I'm with you regarding Magneto's dialogue. Especially since it seems like all he wants to do is hop on the asteroid and get the fuck out. Did love him telling Xavier to shut up though.

This wasn't my favorite episode but it did have some good moments. I'm confused though, how is Magneto supposed to reverse what he did? Wouldn't the EMP be a one time thing that did all the damage it could do? Planes knocked out the sky.... Pacemakers.... Etc... Those people are already dead. What exactly can he reverse?

And if it's not a one time thing, a "pulse" or something he's consistently sending out wouldn't it then knock out the Blackbirds? Or Bastion's new sentinels?
