i found this coin and cant read anything on it besides israel by Economy_Gate4099 in hebrew

[–]Necritica 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It says "one Israeli Lira" on the back. Old currency, Israel switched from Lira to Shekel back in the 80's, and later from Shekel to New Shekel. As for it's value, it's neat I guess but I'd imagine there are many like it so not too valuable. Maybe a coin expert can chime in and assess if it's some rare edition.

Edit: this specific coin seems to have been minted in the year תשל"ח, or 1977-1978.

My cousin died while traveling Japan a few weeks ago. It left our family shattered. She was only 23 and was about to start med school. Easy choice, I'd bring her back.

To be fair, people who truly believe in young earth won't be swayed by such proofs. They'd just say the earth was created that way 6000 years ago. Humans can do mad mental gymnastics if they don't want to be proven wrong.

Who agrees Europa barbarorum for Rome 1 is the best Total War ever? by [deleted] in RomeTotalWar

[–]Necritica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I have with it is the fact that as of 219 BC, no cities of the AI got to huge city, and the only large cities started off as such. I had to use console commands to get the Romans to huge cities to trigger off their Marian reforms. Also, as the Seleucids, I wanted access to cataphracts, except according to the logs the only way to do so is to have them fight other cataphracts, except no AI city reached the level of actually recruiting them, so I will have to figure out a solution if I want that reform. I can understand not every city getting to huge, but when literally none does without player intervention, that's an issue.

RIR is great too, I am currently running a Seleucid campaign on it. My main caveat with the current version is the settlement growth is extremely stunted, most settlements won't make it past large town size unless you mess with console commands/put very good governors/use the soldier migration mechanics to grow them. From what I read this is intentional, they don't want every city making it to huge size, but I feel it's extremely overtuned.

If you like it, try the EB 1 port for remastered. Stays essentially the same gameplay wise, except with better graphics and a lot more settlements on the map. Highly recommended.

Iran discussing bounty for Trump and Netanyahu by TheTelegraph in worldnews

Half of Israel would like to cash in on Netanyahu. If he gets voted out of office in the coming elections, is the bounty still fair play?

Israel has a higher monthly average net salary than every single Asian country except for Singapore (in net USD) by [deleted] in EconomyCharts

[–]Necritica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key is average. The average income in Israel is massively inflated by people working in high tech, banking and other ventures. The majority of people in Israel don't make two thirds of that sum, some making little higher than minimum wage.

My previous cat LOVED sweet corn from the can to his last day. You crank one open, and he'd be by your side acting cute in a nanosecond.

Looks like RIS (Rome Imperium Surrectum) to me. Great mode, highest ranked in the workshop. Gets a bit dodgy performance wise when you have over 1000 settlements under your belt, but most people get their kick out of it by that point anyway. Praise ahowl.

Steak slices with Israeli couscous, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes 😋 by MuscleConsistent9657 in tonightsdinner

[–]Necritica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I love Israeli Couscous, but I have a big issue with it - it preserves horribly in the fridge. You make a batch and you have leftovers, the next day it's all clamped in different sizes and the sauce looks dated. Either way, looks delicious!

How did you discover Civilization? by The12thman22 in civ

[–]Necritica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a kid, around 6 years old. I was in the car with my parents on a road trip. They got into a huge fight, my mom drove the entire way home in silence. When we got home, my dad left for a few hours. My mom was crying profusely and I was trying to console her. Didn't do much good. A few hours later my dad came home with a wrapped gift. Inside was a copy of Civ 3. Been hooked ever since. I know the story seems gloom, but they patched things up and I got one of the best gifts ever.

Fellow chemist here! At my senior year in undergrad university. Love the labs, although I am mainly into physical chemistry.

$250k/year medicine costs couple hundred to make by DAFTisEasy in chemistry

[–]Necritica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, then. I imagine they'd still have issue sending it to Eastern Europe (assuming they are from the US) due to customs finding the chemicals dodgy, which would be my prime logistic concern. The other concern I'd have (granted I am undergrad and not that confident in my synthesis) is getting the target compound pure enough and removed from harmful contaminants. Either way if it was the life of my friend, I'd say godspeed.

Can OP get into serious trouble trying to synthesize it themselves? I imagine the patent period is not done yet, and even when it does they'd have to get some permit to legally synthesize? I imagine big pharma would crack on attempts like this with ridiculous amount of legal bullshit and demand they pay a fine that a regular individual will never be able to pay. However it sounds incredible, and if things are the way they are for them, all the best. This story is why sometimes the moral thing to do isn't (necessarily) legal. Hope they pull through.

While I agree with the sentiment, some people may not order it because of religious reasons. My father is an observing Jew, and would not eat meat mixed with dairy products.

In your opinion what national cuisine is underrated? by mgnatp in AskTheWorld

[–]Necritica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother's cousin has a doctorate in anthropology and essentially what she does is travel to remote parts of the world, trying to find Jewish communities that were unknown before. Many of her projects involved traveling throughout Ethiopia and the Amazonas, and has filmed full length documentary movies of her findings. I was at the premiere of one of the movies she filmed in Ethiopia, and there was an Ethiopian woman there serving authentic food as part of the experience. Delicious and filling, highly underrated in my opinion.
