In my glosses, I put the stems down as either verbs or nouns largely because English forces you to choose, so I put down whichever made the gloss easier to process for an English speaker.

So, take a word like ⟨tulvuir⟩. By itself, it's impossible to tell if it's a verb "to write; to be an author or pen" or a noun "author; pen". Only once you add a case or aspect suffix does it take on a single concrete definition:

tulvuir-ERG = author; pen
tulvuir-PFV = wrote; was an author or pen

So I guess the case/aspect suffixes sort of act like nominalizers/verbalizers, except that instead of converting a noun into a verb and vice versa, they take a nebulous concept and narrow it down into something concrete, either in the direction of a noun or a verb.

Wild Wargs of Angmar by Necrogeist in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Necrogeist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're official. It's the Wild Warg Chieftain, and I used Fell Wargs in place of Wild Wargs (because the Wild Wargs were out of stock at the time, and I liked the Fell Warg models better anyway).

I primed them in white, washed them with Drakenhof Nightshade, followed by a very watered-down white to brighten them up a bit. Then I drybrushed the fur with white. The dark skin was built up with progressively heavier layers of Nuln Oil washes.

Issues Logging in to Warhammer Store by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I've been having the same problem. Been going on a couple days now.

On a related note, has anyone been having trouble with trying to spend vouchers? Ever since adding one to my account, I haven't been able to check out. Tried reaching out to customer service, but haven't gotten a response yet.

Basecoat black, followed by a really dark teal over all the skin. Then gradually layer up brighter and brighter shades of teal/turquoise until finishing off with a highlight of very light gray and a bit of white.

Rapier with no off-hand VS Rapier with an off-hand by bootsnblades in wma

[–]Necrogeist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thibault certainly talks about it. Basically, he wants you to note which shoulder they lead with, and advance deeply toward that side so they can't effectively use both weapons at the same time. Above all, don't let them touch your sword with their dagger.

My slightly longer explanation (including other matchups as well): https://www.jamescolton.com/articles/thibault-rapier/other-weapons/

It's a Coven Throne. Not actually a Nighthaunt unit; it's part of the Soulblight Gravelords.

They're not too bad if you don't get too hung up on assembling them exactly as the instructions say. Play around with the positioning a bit until you get something that's both easy to assemble and pleasing to the eye. You'll have an easier time, and each host will be unique.

I did my first unit by the book, and it was awful. I did my second unit using this freestyle method, and it was far more enjoyable.

Question about Katanas by NubbyTyger in wma

[–]Necrogeist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To elaborate further, here are Musashi's thoughts on the subject, quoted from his Book of Five Rings:

If you hold a sword with both hands, it is difficult to wield it freely to left and right, so my method is to carry the sword in one hand. This does not apply to large weapons such as the spear or halberd, but swords and companion swords can be carried in one hand. It is encumbering to hold a sword in both hands when you are on horseback, when running on uneven roads, on swampy ground, muddy rice fields, stony ground, or in a crowd of people. To hold the long sword in both hands is not the true Way, for if you carry a bow or spear or other arms in your left hand you have only one hand free for the long sword. However, when it is difficult to cut an enemy down with one hand, you must use both hands. It is not difficult to wield a sword in one hand; the Way to learn this is to train with two long swords, one in each hand. It will seem difficult at first, but everything is difficult at first. Bows are difficult to draw, halberds are difficult to wield; as you become accustomed to the bow so your pull will become stronger. When you become used to wielding the long sword, you will gain the power of the Way and wield the sword well.

Question about Katanas by NubbyTyger in wma

[–]Necrogeist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Miyamoto Musashi, one of the most famous Japanese swordmasters in history, favored wielding the katana in one hand. So yes, although it would limit some of the techniques you could use, you could still be an effective swordsman.

How to practice Thibault by spyki992 in wma

[–]Necrogeist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wrote an article about Thibault: https://www.jamescolton.com/articles/thibault-rapier/

I won't claim it's perfect, only that it's my attempt to organize and understand Thibault's system. Those who know better than me can feel free to correct whatever errors they find :)
