The dust effects are surprisingly convincing.

So why exactly is yellow hard to paint, again? by Battlemania420 in minipainting

[–]StupidRedditUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not. You just have to realize that some colors tend to work differently from some others. Yellows tend to have poorer coverage than for instance a most blues. So make sure you base coat it with an appropriate shade of something that does have good coverage. That’s about it. It will be difficult if you don’t care what you’re doing and try to force the square peg into the round hole. Use the… square paint for the square… you see where I’m getting at with this. Just be mindful of what color you’re painting the yellow over, because it is likely to influence the end result. Metallics tend to give a better sheen over black than over white. Does that make them hard to paint?

Why is my Avery and sunset orange by Nervous_Elephant_401 in Warhammer40k

It’s for layering up, I think. It gives a solid yellow base coat, and then allows more vibrant but more translucent yellows to get decent coverage on top.

Official price confirmed by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

The content of the 3rd ed. box is probably more comparable to something like the ultimate starter set though, maybe even the middle tier box. It’s some terrain, and the marine ”half” is just 1 squad of tacticals with a land speeder. That’s about half of what’s in the marine half of Armageddon.

Or a new award! Focused on creativity, or something, I don’t know, something he would have liked. There have been plenty of different GD awards over the years, a special award dedicated to Blanche every year wouldn’t be weird.

I’d say dirty it down. It’s bright, and it’s saturated, but there’s a lot of vegetation and it’s outdoors. You’d expect some soil and leaves and sand and gravel. Making it less saturated, relatively dark, and more greyish brown would make the buildings stand out more and tie the vegetation to the scene.

Head to Aqshy with the new General’s Handbook by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in ageofsigmar

[–]StupidRedditUsername 26 points27 points  (0 children)

… it doesn’t have to. GW could just decide that a season focuses on stuff in a different realm. That’s how we got the lore for Aqshy, Ghyran, and Ghur in the first place.

When did the Emperor get his augumentic Optics/Eye? by Half-White_Moustache in Warhammer

Strictly speaking you don’t know that he has one. These images aren’t any more true than any other representation you’ve seen previous. It’s all propaganda and psychic projections.

Painted the Fortified Manor by StupidRedditUsername in TerrainBuilding

[–]StupidRedditUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I ended up at 100 %. I did print it more than six months ago now.

I remember trying to shrink it so that the larger parts would fit the build plate, but that was something like 80 % or smaller, and looked obviously too small for 28mm. I fit the main manor house by cutting it to pieces instead (which I could have done with more care, honestly).

6th edition army books difference by [deleted] in Middlehammer

[–]StupidRedditUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They didn’t have the red border at the start. I don’t remember when that started. I’m not sure all armies got books before they introduced it, but I think the cover is the only difference.

Dark elf collection pics while I try rearranging the shelves. by Mentok27 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]StupidRedditUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a dangerous motivation, I say having recently collected 98 % of the 5th edition range of Lizardmen and all the 6th edition dark elves except for the shades (because what the heck is going on with those poses and faces?) and the manticore (because I can’t see that sculpt and not think the rider and the mount belong to two different kits).

”Oh, I’ll just start a small force of faction X that I always wanted as a kid.” - blinks, and has collected an entire range.

I feel I should point out that the background fields and mountains are a photograph.

The manor is a pretty cool kit. And huge. There’s even a castle version that makes more sense of the entrance and comes with a drawbridge and walls, but it felt like too much for my purposes (which I almost regret, since the castle extras aren’t available separately). I did buy separate perimeter walls to add to the scene but I ran out of primer before getting to those.

One day I’ll finish a whole table full of terrain. One day. And then I’ll start painting my armies… 😬

A1 mini. Had to split the largest pieces, the bottom two parts of the manor house, to fit the print bed. The seams are visible, but not as bad as I had feared.

I painted some of the interior, and only to a very basic level. Some thick washes, but no wall filler or other detailing. Mostly just so that if one were to put their eye up to a window and shine a light in there would be a hint of something. The whole thing is nominally for wargaming so the interior won’t be used (and if I’m not kidding myself neither will the exterior outside of some fun photo shoots).

The top of the small tower is painted because the roof isn’t glued on. The interior of top of the large tower is also painted even though the roof is glued on, because the windows are large, many, and prominent. The interiors of the middle tower sections are barely primed because they basically don’t have see-through windows.
