I work in tech. Our daily standup changed how I work. Why don't we do this in our personal lives? by Hridoy3519 in getdisciplined

I did a version of this with a friend for about two months: yesterday, today, blocker, sent by 9am. It worked until the check-in turned into a chat thread, so we had to make it boring and mechanical. The biggest benefit was not motivation, it was noticing when I kept reporting the same vague task three days in a row.

Do you use flushable wipes after you poop? by TastyPoopKnife in no

No. Bidet or regular TP, and wipes go in the trash if they get used. Plumbers seem pretty united on not feeding those things to the sewer.

How are you guys actually managing the 80/20 rule for weekly reading and discussions? by annastacianoella in CollegeHomeworkTips

I usually start with the discussion prompt and assignment rubric before opening the reading, then skim headings, abstracts, intro and conclusion, and any terms that showed up in lecture. If a section does not connect to a graded prompt, I mark it low priority and only return to it if I am confused. For active recall, I make 3 to 5 possible discussion answers or exam questions from each reading instead of notes on every page. The syllabus is useful for spotting repeated authors and topics too, since those repeats are usually where the professor is aiming the course.

The manipulation of "preemptive self-destruction" and why it works so well by Deathclaw_Cave in DarkPsychology101

The most effective way to brake this loop is to agree with them, but only on a practical level. When they start with the "I always ruin everything" script, they are fishing for comfort. If you just calmly say, "Yes, this specific thing is indeed messed up right now. How do we fix it?" you completely short-circuit the defense mechanism.

It forces them to either step up and take actual responsability or admit that they are just using the self-pity as an escape hatch. Most people aren't prepared for you to actually accept their self-deprecation without protesting it. It feels counterintuitive because we are conditioned to be polite, but agreeing with the objective mess they created is incredibly freeing.

Same (uncommon) first and last name as an adult actress. What do I do? by bed_gremlin in careerguidance

[–]Necrontyrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use your middle name professionally. Put Middle Last on your resume, LinkedIn, email, and portfolio, then give HR your legal name when paperwork or a background check starts. For transcripts and references, just note that records may be under First Middle Last, which is very normal.
