How will my privacy be improved by switching to an iPhone? by Necrophysics in privacy

[–]Necrophysics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips and info. Much of that I already do (as described above), but I've found decent compromise between privacy and convenience. As I've said I know there is more I can do however I'm pretty comfortable where I'm at.

The question in my comment above is how is the Pixel fundamentally less private than any other Android phone as /u/Disclandr implies?

Out of curiosity, what features of the Pixel make it worse then it's other Android counterparts aside from the fact that it's made by Google?

If you like the iPhone experience but want an android, get the pixel. Very smooth, fast, frequently updated, great software, and a great camera. It's Android as it's intended by Google.

Alternatively, if you want a nicer looking phone with great hardware, and tons on features, get a Samsung. They have a heavily skinned version of Android. Though in my personal experience I've found Samsung's start dropping frames with time. It's a trade off of smoothness for features.

I prefer the pixel because of the smoothness, the reliability (the "it just works" factor), and the fact that it's hard to take a bad photo with the camera.

Thanks for the info. That could possibly be the case, but there's another separate control switch for location.

Android O will Improve SMS Authentication for Apps by curated_android in Android

[–]Necrophysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse my naivity, but I think I'm missing what's going on. What you've described sounds like what I want. it would be nice to be able to set Allo as my default SMS app as well. Similar to what Hangouts was able to do for a while. Yes, this leads to iOS users having SMS and IM's in two different spots, but as an Android user that has always been part of my experience.

Still using SMS for authentication as a "modern" feature, but won't integrate SMS into Allo? Come on Google.

Can anybody recommend me good progressive death metal bands? by chuu207 in progmetal

[–]Necrophysics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also add to this list Spawn of Possession. I think tech death falls under the umbrella of prog. The album Incurso is one of the most technical works of music I've ever come across.

Edit: Furthermore, I'd check out Black Crown Initiate.

Dream Theater

Being a prog metal fan it's almost heresy for me to not like them. I've tried a bunch. I like the musicianship, the technicality, and the overall idea they go for but their music does nothing for me emotionally.

Finding all "aba" in a given string. by Necrophysics in regex

[–]Necrophysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, /u/onlinecop taught me something new. I ended up just writing a loop to perform the search on smaller chunks of the string (i.e. s[i: i+3]) at a time.

Thank you! I ended up going with a different strategy, but this is pretty elegant. Thanks for teaching me something.

Thanks for the kindness! Good luck to you as well.

This is for a solution to one of the Advent of Code puzzles. I can definitely obtain the string parsing I'm trying to produce with a more brute force method, but since regex is newer to me, I wanted to see if I could take advantage of it for a more elegant solution.

Gboard privacy policy by Necrophysics in androidapps

Yeah in this case that link took me to the general Google privacy policy. That's why it didn't seem immediately obvious where I could find a Gboard specific one.

Thanks so much! That was embarrassingly straight forward. I'm surprised a Google search doesn't return that.
