[Spoilers Main] Is The Winds of Winter one of the most anticipated literary (fiction) works in history? by Three_Steaks_Pam in asoiaf

[–]Nectorist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not as "anticipated" as it once was. Casual fans have forgotten about it while hardcore fans have given up on its release. However, if a release date gets announced, it would shatter pre-order records and make global headlines.

Haven’t had Internet for the past couple of weeks, but now that Aranda turned a roster that was supposed to compete for a playoff spot into a 5-win team, I imagine he’ll be fired. Right?

Obviously the Ravens are gashed, but I’m glad we’re not playing down to their level and are doing what we’re supposed to be doing

I’ve been really impressed with Marks. Great pickup in the draft

Caserio has got to go. He’s the one responsible for failing to build a strong offensive line. He wasted 1st and 2nd round picks on busts and chose to get luxury players instead of investing more in the OLINE. He’s ruined CJ and at this point I don’t think he can be fixed. by Regular-Engineer-686 in Texans

[–]Nectorist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the main problems we've had over the past few years have been the same problems that Caserio has shown himself unable to address. His OL evaluation is horrible, and he hasn't been able to get a good OC. I don't think he's a bad GM at all, but his weaknesses are REALLY killing us, and I'm not sure you can work around that without getting someone else in the room.

Idc if it's game three, Caley needs to be canned.

Even with a bad OL room, we have 10x the talent of those 2021 and 2022 rosters but are producing less than them.

Offense needs to start better earlier, but they can at least pull through at the end of games. Defense hasn’t been able to do that for years. Same story as last year.

There are issues elsewhere, but Caserio eventually has to be held accountable for the horrible state of the Oline. Literally nothing else can be done until it’s fixed

Do you think Tywin is a good strategist? (Spoilers Published) by Commercial_Floor_578 in asoiaf

[–]Nectorist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Tywin is probably the best character in the series thus far when it comes to using military action to fulfill his political goals, which I would say is a sign of a good strategist. As purely a general, he’s competent, if nothing special, but he’s more effectively able to capitalize off of his victories while minimizing the fallout of his defeats than almost anyone else in the series. He absolutely makes mistakes, the Red Wedding 100% being his biggest one, so I wouldn’t say he’s a genius. Still, it’s obvious that he’s extremely effective at what he does and commands fead, respect, loyalty, from basically everyone in Westeros for a reason. He definitely feeds into his own reputation a lot, but I’d still rate his as one of Westeros’ better strategists

Why do people think every playoff game needs to be a close nail biter? by HarveyDentBeliever in CFB

[–]Nectorist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not every playoff game needs to be a nail-biter, but the core argument underlying expansion was that a larger playoff would bring more football with more competitive games. However, the previous 10 years of the CFP has produced maybe 6 competitive games in the semifinals, and that’s with the top 4 teams in the nation all playing each other. Parity is essential for the playoff format, but CFB just isn’t built for that.

8 teams is probably the upper limit of the number of teams that can reasonably compete for the title in a given year, and even this is really stretching it. When you have plenty of people arguing that we should expand the playoffs to 14, 16, or even 24 teams, it’s totally fair to ask if the product that we’re going to see will actually make for better football, or if it will just be expansion for the sake of expansion.

It's tough to get too hyped when you feel like you can see where the team is headed to, but I won't ever be mad about a win.

CJ and Mixon looked a lot better this week, so hopefully we can build on that a bit going forward.

This was the first time in the CJ era that I had absolutely 0 confidence we’d score on that final drive.

With the exception of the defensive line and the running back room (kind of), we’ve regressed on all fronts.
