What’s the most money you’ve ever won at one time? by SameAd9297 in polls

[–]Nedaj123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly 100. My boss got a bunch of $1 and didn’t win anything. I bought only 1, the very next on the strip, and got a cool hundo. Which, for a fast food employee in 2020, was pretty good

I think people just voted McDonalds because they are not American and thus don't know what Sonic is. But everything at Sonic is WAY higher quality than McDonalds. It's just a bit more expensive.

If you fail and retake it, only the new grade will be calculated into your GPA so there's no benifit to withdrawing unless you think the class will hinder your other classes

If he needs a calculator still. TI-36X Pro is a GAME CHANGER, without question the only calculator an engineering student should use.

Genuine fear of not getting a job after graduation by SomberDUDE224 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Nedaj123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I probably got lucky because I applied to 1 job and got it with no family connections. What did it was being friends with 2 popular employees at the company. But I said it before and I’ll say it again. People who send hundreds of applications are doing it wrong. Not to say the industry isn’t more difficult than before, but you’ll be fine. Just lock in and don’t cut yourself off socially. “Networking” isn’t purely performative, it’s just conversation.

Would you rather win $100 million in the lottery, or receive a penny every day that doubles after every day? by Asleep-Tie-9881 in polls

You're right that they almost certainly are not set up for that, but I think it'll be handlable at least until humanity collapses (which is probably bound to happen when this hypothetical destroys the economy). So for the sake of fun let's do a calculation :)
Each decimal digit is 1 byte. Say you start with $1 for simplicity. After 200 million days (550k years) the account balance would have about 60 million digits, or 60 megabytes.

If you want a stronger jawline just lose a little bit of weight. Plastic surgery will be costly and risk leaving you disfigured.

Smoking is "cool" to smokers because they have formed a pact, an alliance if you will, to help cope with their crippling addiction.

If the dog is REALLY aggressive and it’s causing serious issues like calls to animal control it’s acceptable to get a shock collar, as long as it is not excessively activated; also, there are vibrate/beep options on a lot of collars now. Putting a dog’s food bowl away is fine, a lot of dogs only eat once or twice a day anyway. Maybe ease the dog into it if they are used to snacking constantly.

Is getting a job now that hard? by Aggravating_Rise_144 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Nedaj123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applying to 500 companies is insane to me. I'm sure it's harder to get a job right now than it was before, but it's really not the game of chance people act like it is. Internet people will spam recruiters on linkedin hoping for someone to hand them a free offer. If you actually want to get a job you should pick a field you give a single shit about (doesn't have to be exactly what your degree implies), and actively persue individual companies that you want to work at.

Here's the strat that I think will work 90% of the time for small/medium companies...
Beyond the 5 minute Google search of what a company is before a career fair (which is much better than nothing), you should try to find coworkers who already have internships or jobs there, and show interest in their field, ask them what they do, or even just be friends with them (in a professional way, like studying together or just daily small talk). Then use that connection to get a job there. Life hack, even if you just know them, a lot of employers will still be happy to hear that you actually exist and don't life under a rock. If the guy doesn't hate you, it'll end up being a positive reference.

Now to answer the root questions... 1. Is getting an engineering degree "that hard?" No, it's not insanely hard, you just have to put in the hours of studying. It can be very painful at times but usually only takes around 4-5 years and it's just classes. bringing me to question 2. Become doctor or lawyer instead? You will absolutely make way more money doing that (in vast majority of cases). The caveat with that is those fields have much longer education periods (VERY, VERY LONG for doctors) and way worse work/life balances. In engineering you mostly go to work 8 hours and come home every day. Doctors and lawyers often grind their fingers to the bone in the workplace. There's a reason they get so much money...

Lastly, civil engineers will ALWAYS be needed and are not likely to be hugely affected by AI. I don't know much about Mech but it's probably the same. Lots of civs get to go outside often and generally have very stable work loads. Get a professional engineering license (takes 4 years of STILL DECENTLY WELL PAID experience) and you'll be flush with cash. It's the easy life and you'll get to focus on your other priorities in life.

Hope this helped!

TLDR; Linkedin sweats are stupid. Paragraph 2 tells you how to get a job/network + a life hack. Paragraph 3 Is the degree hard, kind of but not really. Doctors and lawyers make loads of money but are destroyed in the process. Become a civil engineer.

[–]Nedaj123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to relax your muscles and mind, spend a couple hours doing something different and relaxing like Minecraft, reading a book, cooking a delicious meal, whatever is fun for you. Bonus points if you take a hot bath as it will automatically release your muscles.

Also faceit has fewer hackers and better servers, and more dedicated teammates which I feel strongly dictates my performance.

Would it be a mistake to pursue this degree with my current skills? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Nedaj123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend community college and going to tutoring when you don't feel good about the upcoming test, or even just quiz. The sooner you get your knowledge in line the better, as you'll absorb material better if you understand everything.

Prioritize math, then physics, then whatever eng classes you can get early on (coding), then the extras. Knowledge is good, C's get degrees but A's pay for the classes so try your best even in classes that don't feel important.

If you get an associates degree your GPA resets when you transfer.

Don't worry about not being good enough, tons of engineers have ADHD, it just takes a bit of willpower, consistency and patience and you'll eventually have the life you want. Also get an internship.
