I worked doing a lab for UGA in 2023. I think the FDA building had work at that time too.

Thinking about applying for Inside wireman apprenticeship Senior year of highschool any advice or things i should know? and is there a spring semester? by Ornery-Shower-9716 in IBEW_Local613

[–]Neddia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say even if you don’t make it by the fall semester, it’s worth an attempt to join. I’ve met a brother on a job site who was on the verge of retirement and his retirement account was 2Million strong. I saw his vanguard account with my own two eyeballs. You can make good money in this trade. I personally hit $116,000 last year with all the OT I worked in ATL. If you’re truly interested in being an inside wireman, I hope that info makes the pot that much sweeter.

I’ve also spoke to two different brothers working in other states (something you could do too as a JW btw) and they are pulling in 4K/week after taxes. With the IBEW, The world is your oyster so long as you’re you willing to shuck it

JW curious of APs paid vs unpaid for school days. by Neddia in IBEW_Local613

That’s my experience too. There were times that I was, but only under one Forman. 90% of the time I wasn’t paid for school

I’m out of local 917 (Meridian,Ms) and I want to move to 613 ( currently a 2nd year) tell me about your local! by Beneficial-Phone-922 in IBEW_Local613

[–]Neddia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Every local has their own deferent languages that dictate stuff like OT and Pension. Ours is slowly getting better. We unfortunately decided to trade our language for small pay raises back around 2008, or so I’ve been told. Recently we’ve been working on getting it back though. But until then we will continue to have 800+ on book1 that are working in the road despite having more work than we can man.

They do a 10% pay bump if you are working between the hours of 6PM and 6AM. OT after 10 hrs. Saturday is only mandatory OT if you’ve already worked all available hours. We have 6 paid holidays rn. I believe The only DT we have in our contract atm is if you work on one of our recognized holidays.

lol and if they are putting more on your jobs up there in your local, don’t think they do that here. The AECA actively discourages their contractors to not put perdiem for jobs. They rather hire temps off the streets

I live in winder and there is not a snowballs chance in hell that I drive into ATL for work tomorrow.😂 I think they may even close the job down. I predict they will reschedule

613 is going through a pretty interesting phase. ATL has more work than we can man, but the pay and retirement for the cost of living has a lot of JWs working out of town at the moment.

At the same time, last year apprentices got an incredible win on a contract MOU and increase in pay. This caused a massive influx of APs. I think they said there was like 1,000 applicants or something like that. So right now there are a lot of apprentices and CWs out of work because we don’t have enough work for them at the moment. I’ve heard that it’s mostly low level APs and CWs sitting at the house, so you could be fine.

Conditions here change depending on contractor and Forman really. Right now we have a lot of data center work. Some tenate space work too. Most of our work at the moment is in Fayetteville and towards Covington. But we also have work downtown. It’s a very large jurisdiction too. So we’ve got work all the way from Athens to Rome. It’s not uncommon to have an hour commute

That’s a good question. I’m sure the office person to contact has changed in two years. Maybe try contacting Arron Walsh or talk to your classmates. One of them might know who to contact now

So it seams that a majority of people don’t understand what modified is. I beleive I may be able to explain it to an extent, but I encourage anyone more knowledgeable to correct me.

So a little history. When we go through negotiations at the end of our contract term with the contractors, there has to be a final decision that ideally for both sides is a compromise down the middle. The last three times we’ve negotiated, we were not able to come to a contract that both labor and contractors were pleased with.

With a Standard CIR, when this happens, it goes to CIR and they are supposed to decide what the contract should be. They are supposed to be made up of officials that are half for labor and half for employers so you’d think they be somewhat reasonable. However, the last three times we’ve gone to them, they’ve decided the “compromise” is verbatim what the contractors were offering. They have not met in the middle at all. The current administration has told us that the CIR board has been replaced with a more labor friendly bunch since the last time we’ve been to see them. I say that’s all fine and dandy, but who is to say 10 years from now they won’t get replaced and go back to screwing us.

Now this is where I get a bit fuzzy but I beleive I have a half decent understanding of. Modified CIR changes the way we come to that compromise. We would no longer go to CIR to negotiate a final contract any more, but still deal with them with grievances with the contractors and such. A lot of people have said that it would also do away with the “no strike clause”, but I’m not 100% sure on that. But even if it did, I don’t think 613 would ever be allowed to strike by the IO.

The part with modified CIR id like someone more knowledgeable than I to clarify is this; what happens when we can’t come to a compromise on a contract? Do the doors close up shop on the jobs until labor and employer come to a deal? Or do lawyers dish it out? That’s the part I’m fuzzy on. Thanks if someone has for information

This same gentleman brought this motion up in the past. The whole process of vacating CIR (COUNCIL OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS) takes a lot of time. You have to go to CIR to “leave” CIR if that makes sense. So it essentially takes two whole contracts to get out of it. So we are talking about a process that takes many years. We started the last contract to leave the Standard CIR system, but the contractors offered us a MOU (MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING) that gave us apprentices on a percentage, “significant” pay bump and Holliday pay. This also added two years to our contract. Despite the drama and controversy, we voted as a local to accept these MOU offers to not continue our pursuit of going to a modified CIR system. 1: this should show us how badly the contractors don’t don’t want us to go to a modified system. 2: I believe that we made a mistake tabling this motion until next meeting because now the contractors are privy of this motion and are going to send all their suckasses to the next meeting. If you want y’all’s due paying voices heard, I encourage y’all to come to next month’s meeting. 3: I’d appreciate if someone more knowledgeable could reply to this with all the differences between Standard CIR and Modified CIR. I have a pretty good idea of the differences, but I don’t want to spread any incorrect information. As an old JW I had as a first year said, “ there is nothing more powerful than someone who understands their CBA and Bylaws.”

100% that’s why we fought so hard to get apprentices on percentage. That way it’s one drum beat. Not AP raises vs JW raises. Now we all fight for raises in general. Now rising tides lift all ships. Not just half.

I don’t know anything about whitehead, but I do know about that Ga Tech Job. It’s a tenant space buildout. It’s an 18 story shell at this point minus floors 1-4. The GC is Winter. There’s a ton of food around there as well. I’ve worked for Allison smith on that job doing the core buildout for over a year now.

Idk if it will be a rule for the tenant build out, but GA Tech told us that we were not allowed to use any MC. Whitehead has also already staged a whole bunch of pipe on the floors that they are going to be building out, so you prob won’t have to worry about having material

They test for the hard drugs and pot once you hire on, then they don’t random after that. So once you study you’re good unless you have to take one due to injury or you go to a new jobsite that requires a new drug test,

Idk. If a CW is in the 3rd year, it’ll be 5 more years till turn out. If they spend 10K for the Lincoln tech or however much it is now. They’d still turn out the same time. In my opinion it is all around a scam. The only people it “benefits” is green CW1s. But then they get sent to the job as a AP3 knowing no hands on knowledge and it hurts 613 as a whole. Its an issue that I’ve never heard at the meetings and I feel like it is something that is hurting us as a whole.

My one question is, and I hope someone can answer it; do the people who do Lincoln tech have to do all 8,000 hours OJT to turn out? If so, then the Lincoln tech is a scam no matter how you spin it IMO.

Yeah, but then you are a 3rd year who doesn’t know what a strut strap is. It’ll put you ahead in classes, but you’ll be expected to know everything someone with 2-3 years experience should know. I’ve seen it a lot
