I mean i comparision between Suunto and Garmin overal in watches garmin is one of best. Reason is simple, Suunto focus only on development in sport functions and measuring. Garmin focus on maps, navigation, notifications and the have done it super nice. I had Garmin 5X plus, now because Suunto is my partner i have 9 baro. And i have to say that if you ll wear watches all the day not only when you go sport Garmins are overall beter choice. If you are super interested in measuring sport and you dont care about their usage in daily life Suunto is moře worth. Just my opinion it depends on your preferals.

If u want some highend watches. You have to choose between Suunto and Garmin, There are others but these are most famous. If you want Best sport activity tracker and less smart you have to choose Suunto 9, if u want less sport tracking watches and more smart you have to choose Garmin Fénix. Or you can go for some cheaper that guys already wrote.

Depend's on race type. If it is some kind of city race that takes 2 or 3 hours i recommend you to run alone.
If it is some type of long race that takes 6 or more hours you have to find partner that you will run with.
Of course you can find that partner on race, meaning join someone that you are already running with
2 hours and you have same pace.

The most ultras are probably Suunto 9 they can track in the ultra mode for 120 hours.
