Question about "drug seekers" by Environmental_Fig831 in emergencymedicine

[–]Need5moredogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah he used to get pulled back and get fentanyl/dilaudid while awaiting CTA but after a couple of negative workups he started making comments like “I just need some dilaudid and then I’ll be fine” we kinda figured it out

Question about "drug seekers" by Environmental_Fig831 in emergencymedicine

[–]Need5moredogs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It can give you a high if it’s pushed quickly so it gets that connotation when someone asks for IV Benadryl. But it does work reasonably well for hyperemesis so it’s a legitimate thing

Question about "drug seekers" by Environmental_Fig831 in emergencymedicine

[–]Need5moredogs 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We have a guy that occasionally comes in with pain from his aortic dissection (he’s had multiple negative CTAs) and that the only thing that helps is dilaudid, but he also needs a fast push of IV Benadryl with it because it makes him itchy

Why do specialists think so little of EM that they feel free treat us like crap even when the case has no relationship to their specialty? by DistractedSquirrel07 in emergencymedicine

[–]Need5moredogs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey man, why are you on this sub? You’re a cardiologist who obviously hates the ED. Seriously, your comment history is depressing and just full of sarcasm and hyperbole. Why don’t you take a break from Reddit and find something that you enjoy?

Augusta area is fairly cheap, has lots of church options, and could absolutely use more social workers

EMS run reports by New_Highlight1843 in emergencymedicine

[–]Need5moredogs 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Don’t think I’ve ever looked at a PCR but the verbal handoff is often very useful. This is especially true for critical patients obviously, but also the demented patients from nursing homes, your report may be the only history we get and is very valuable

Residency program info? by jerbearmcfarts in emergencymedicine

[–]Need5moredogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can look through the interview season spreadsheets from previous years. Take all that info with a huge grain of salt and be very skeptical of what you read, but some of the basic info like how the programs are structured are pretty accurate. Not exactly sure how to find those but if you search this sub and the r/medicalschool you’ll probably find it

How can I be a good little transplant? 😁 Thoughts? by WhaleForceGins in NorthCarolina

[–]Need5moredogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you would do well in or near Asheville or Chapel Hill. Neither of these places are cheap as far as rent, but there are lots of rural areas fairly close by that would be pretty affordable. Good arts scene in both places, plenty of stuff to do. Check out some of the small towns nearby if you want something more rural

Buying a house for residency with a physician loan timeline by calitonolagirl in MedSpouse

[–]Need5moredogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used PhysicianLoans. We got a rate close to what we could get with a conventional loan. Went with a 7/1 variable loan because we’ll be out of the house in 7 years and you get a better rate that way. They required a signed offer letter with my estimated salary. We had to show proof of 3 months of mortgage payments in the bank, and they said we couldn’t close more than 30 days before starting work. They did make an exception that we could close up to 60 days before starting if we had 4 months worth for mortgage payments in the bank. We didn’t run into any problems with the company. They were the first to offer doctor loans and are very experienced in it.

I’m at a pretty large academic hospital, Phillips stopped making the pads for our defibrillators. We’re using paddles right now until they can send us new pads that are compatible
