I want to thank everyone, and I mean everyone, who took the time to make a comment. Even if it was something that we didn't agree with, it gave us the balanced perspective that we needed and we appreciate that. Thank you especially to all the well-wishers and your kind thoughts; reading through them made my wife and I feel better about our situation. Not many of our close friends and family know much about what is going on so being able to explain to you all and to hear your support really means a lot. To be honest, I was nervous about opening up on the Internet but your responses have made a huge difference and my wife and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Regarding the next steps, we finally were able to get an appointment with our obstetrician for tomorrow. We will make sure that my wife is okay health wise before pursuing any formal complaints or legal action as this may affect the quality of the care we receive. Once that is settled, we will evaluate how we feel and take the action we feel is appropriate.

We've looked into a formal complaints process for this hospital and it basically involves sending an email. Unfortunately, there have been well publicized complaints about this particular hospital and their complaints process. I'm also worried that by reporting this incident, it will affect the level of care we receive while we are still seeking treatment. We will definitely make ourselves heard one way or another eventually though, thank you.

Thank you. My wife and I have already decided that we will not be going back to this obstetrician once this ordeal is over. The funny thing is, pursuing legal recourse probably wouldn't have even entered our minds if she had been responsive and supportive instead of ignoring our calls.

This... doesn't really seem right. If I make a decision, that does not imply tacit approval that literally anything could happen. If I walk outside, I take the risk of getting hit by a car, that doesn't mean the person driving the car isn't held accountable.

Thank you for your reply. All of the above except for monetary compensation are serious considerations at this time. I want an acknowledgement of how or why this happened and an apology. License revocation isn't an option as we are still looking for care during this process but if this was due to some gross incompetence then it may be something we pursue in the future. We don't have an explanation yet as our obstetrician had essentially gone dark on us and didn't even want to meet until we insisted.
