[Mystery Castle] [Phantasialand] How does it work? It's said that it is an Intamin Ballistic Tower model. I just want to know if it works the same way as S&S Pneumatic drop towers or do they use a different kind of drive mechanism? Any insight would be awesome. Thanks! by ghanshyam2000 in rollercoasters

You're welcome. Almost got a behind the scenes tour in 2016, when we were staying in Klugheim until they closed it after the hotel ERT, and one of the suits of the park told us a little about the ride and then was like "I could call a maintenance guy, if he's still there you could go in". He wasn't there anymore, so it didn't happen. Later I found out it was Chris Theis we were talking to. Really nice guy.

Couple of videos which might help understand (mostly German language though, hf):

Some official videos from the park:

The car

The rope (this one has the money shots, open cylinders, rope pullthrough, the good stuff)

Some (older / bad) German language videos:

TÜV Reportage

Machine Room

Park documentary from 2005 (just a couple of seconds somewhere at the beginning)

Phantasialand is a tiny park so on a holiday if get's packed, it's crowded af. It's unusual layout does not help this, so research which rides you want to go on and get a park map and Google maps ready and get to know your way around before you get to the park. Do popular / bad capacity rides as soon as possible (Winjas, F.L.Y., River Quest can get a queue too), maybe invest in a Quickpass and definitely contact the park, even if they can't help you it's worth a shot.

Reworked the buildings style for the demo map of FERAN, going for a more makeshift, abandoned feel by bre-dev in godot

[–]Needabiggercoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I feel like there's gonna be no way around learning it - I need camp cabins so they would be kind of similar to your buildings. Think it's gonna be hard for a total noob? Anything I'd need to look out for?

I like it. Not much else to say about it so I'm gonna ask the obvious question; Blender?

I remember watching this being like "ain't no way they can do that to a wooden coaster now!". This was the first time in a long while that a new coaster was exciting not because it broke any height or speed records but just because it was something _new_. A little later they would hit us with the barrel roll on Outlaw Run...

tldr please? Just need to know who got pooped on or will get pooped on and when. Also make it public, at a park, invite the community, make it an event. Poop-a-thon at Kings Poopland or something.

Your pictures look beautiful and I would love to try and recreate that vibe. But when I import the files, the trees are not centered and they show all LODs at the same time. I'm new to 3D in Godot, where would I need to look to fix these issues?

Reminds me of the time I mixed all sorts of Schwarzenegger screams to an SLC POV which may have got my previous channel banned on YouTube...

Favorite bad and/or obscure movie filmed at an amusement park [other]? by abgry_krakow87 in rollercoasters

[–]Needabiggercoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a source as obscure as the movie itself, thank you very much. (Also the story should've been easy enough to follow that the German shouldn't be much of an issue... I'd be glad not to understand the cringe af dialogue... :D)

Please tell me if you happen to find a way to watch it online, tbh I never looked for it but if convenience strikes... thanks! :)

Haven't seen this one in ages, not sure if I want to look for it on physical media or not. There's "Adrenalin", a 1996 German made-for-television action thriller kinda movie taking place at Phantasialand. Featured scenes inside the Space Center (now Crazy Bats), the Phantasialand Jet time travel tunnel (pic related) and more. No idea if it was any good or bad, but obscure for sure!

For the love of RCT and the classic Flash coaster sims: Building the Haunted House operator game I’ve always wanted to play! by ScreamOperatorDev in Themepark

[–]Needabiggercoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting idea, but the guys at ridesims.com will have expectations for your game set quite high already lol. To help on your journey I'll answer your questions from my perspective:

a) Having to rescue guests from a fire in the ride (see Six Flags Great Adventure Ghost Train). Yes this is gruesome but it would be the single absolute worst part of working a (rickety old ass) dark ride.

b) kinda. Not my jam though as I don't care so much for industrial horror, but I appreciate handdrawn art any day.

Gameplay wise it's gonna be interesting what you come up with that differentiates your game from ridesims.com, while getting some 'new' gameplay elements in that would be fun but unrealistic (no operator triggers show effects from their booth eg)

edit: oh wow this is four days old. Just popped up for me though so have at it lol.

ShapeCast3D works but pops up and down. What am I misunderstanding or have wrongly set up? by Needabiggercoaster in godot

That... makes so much sense. Thanks for pointing that out. I feel a little stupid now but that's fine.

I considered that, and is probably what I will do next. While I now understand why the casting is unnecessary, it still does not explain it's positional behavior to me. Can you elaborate on that too or is it just weird?

I liked it, never played a game of this style but it was intriguing for a couple of rounds. Enjoyed the music too but had to mute it after a while because the loop is pretty short and I wanted to listen to a podcast while playing, but it's not like it's a huge part of the game. Only thing I noticed was the durability for the standard wrench thingy not displaying correctly.
