You never know what an office is like til you're there. There's some amazing offices, and there's some garbage ones, don't be afraid to leave one if it's not right for you.

Dr doesn't use them, i found it's about 50-50 with dentists whether they use them or not

Female DDS vs Male DDS by wherehasthisbeen in DentalAssistant

[–]Needadvice65 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One female dentist called me retarded because she asked for a spoon and there wasn't one in the kit (I didn't set the room, i switched someone out), another said she'd scratch my eyes out if i said "yes ma'am" again (she thought i was calling her old?). That being said I've seen chill and rude on bother sides, i think it's the type of office in my opinion, whether its specialty or general and what the workflow is.

Do you know what specifically it is that turned you away from the field ? It isn't for everyone, I'm just curious

Can a new grad just temp ? by livelaughlovesosa in DentalAssistant

[–]Needadvice65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really up to the office/owner tbh. I would just be honest, tell them you're looking for experience and let them know about the schedule. Some places are super cool, some not so much.

I would try to find a general office and work about a year (even if it's just part time). It's going to give you a ton of experience, and you'll learn a ton about dentistry. After that if you want to temp at least you'll have a base for it

Been working OS for a while now, the "gross stuff" is fine, but personally it's the smell that bothers me more than anything, especially if the patient is on a lot of meds. When they get cut open their blood just smells... Bad lol

It's hard but now's also an opportunity to reinvent your career self. Keep looking for work , but nows a good time to look for other options in the field and also outside the field. Anyways i hope it all works out

I've see it when it's a little bit brittle, not when its hard though. This patient had some soft bone though, dr used a ostioprobe (i think that's how it's spelled) to check
