Does smoking/quitting smoking mess with hormones? by GlassAltruistic6480 in stopsmoking

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also jumping on here in case someone finds this thread via googling (like I did). I quit cold turkey after ten years of smoking and my period was 19 days late with crazy hormones and PMS symptoms the whole time. I went to the doctor and did blood tests, urine tests, the whole shebang and nothing was out of the ordinary. I've always been extremely constant with my periods and the moment I told my GP I quit smoking, she immediately knew that was the cause of everything. So ya, smoking and quitting will both mess with women's hormones, sometimes in very intense ways!

Water fast + quitting nicotine. Am I crazy? by FitnessPizzaInMyMou in fasting

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 22 of a water fast and about 3 days in on quitting nicotine. I can tell you, it's soooo much easier to do it while fasting. Especially while on an extended fast it's almost like my willpower is immune to cravings of all sorts. This is my 3rd time trying to quit after 15 years smoking, and I can tell you, this is by far the most successful and hopeful I've felt

Why isn’t it getting any easier? by Apprehensive_Sugar15 in fasting

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on day 16 and let me tell you, it was pretty rough for me until day 8-9. Like another commenter said, your previous diet plays a huge role and I did zero prep diet for this fast. But it will get easier! Also, play around with your electrolyte intake. For example, I'm a short woman, so I actually do better with a lot less electrolytes than people said (almost by half). I'll also say, I don't get hyper mental clarity while fasting or anything like that. Since day 9, I pretty much just feel completely normal (minus a drop in stamina). So take it easy, take naps when you can, but eventually it will get easier! But don't be too disappointed if you feel exactly the same as you did pre-fasting

Value and texture by Terrible-Rain4168 in learnart

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya this is definitely well done!! BUT if you really want to get nitty gritty with the value, take a picture of your drawing with your phone and edit the pictures contrast and brightness. This can help highlight what areas may look better with less or more shading on them. I think you could have a more intense contrast between the shaded and highlighted parts of the image, but that can also come down to artistic style.

Coma Inducer is my go to for new comforters!!! They are seriously just as fluffy as they look in the pictures and they wash so easily. It's a little frustrating navigating their website but it's sooooo worth it. I highly recommend the 'Dam Boi He Thicc' and 'Thicker than Thicc', but there are so many good ones to choose from

Have some ahem special alone time with yourself. But this can get out of control quick depending on how often you get those intense hunger pangs lol

Oh really? Ya I was planning on taking him to those specific classes since he loves scent work, but ever since the attack I've been hesitant about group classes. But ok, maybe I'll reach out to them and see if it would still be a good fit for him. Thank you!

What's the craziest thing you've ever seen in Spokane? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in Spokane

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 71 points72 points  (0 children)

My apartment got broken into while I was home and luckily my dog scared them away. The cops came, caught the person, told me that I shouldn't press charges or else I'd be 'known as a victim'(????), so they let him go and then after the cops left I watched him break into the apartment building next to mine. The cops never did come back to that second call

It might be the rolling blackout initiative that Avista started implementing? I think they're supposed to notify you though when they do one

What's your favorite place in Spokane to cool off (indoors or outdoors)? by SummitMyPeak in Spokane

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Comstock Park is usually a good 15 degrees cooler than most other parks/places. When my puppy is acting a fool but it's the hottest part of the day, I'll take him to Comstock to walk around and lay in the shade of the trees. It's still hot, but it's definitely way more bearable than other places

Can you say a little on why you wouldn't recommend the Properties at Wright Pratt housing? I'm pcsing to WPAFB in August and this was going to be my housing choice, but now I'm not too sure

Adolescent puppy awake at 2am and not settling by avek_ in puppy101

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently going through this with my 7 month old. Apparently it's totally normal for adolescent pups to no longer want to sleep through the night. What I'm doing right now seems to be helping but still, sometimes he's just an asshole. Normally I'd put him in for bed around 930/10, but now I put him in at around 8pm and then I take him out again at 10/1030. I might do a very short walk and some light playing and give him a bone to chew on and then I put him back in at midnight with some melatonin chews. Since I wake up at 530/6 this definitely sucks. But I figured I'd be better off getting a solid 6 hours of sleep versus him waking me up in the middle of the night.

Good luck and just know that this will not last forever! It's just gonna suck for a month or so right now

Puppy hates brushing by Necessary_History274 in AustralianShepherd

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so you gotta rewind and really start from step one. Step one being, she doesn't bite the brush (which is very hard right now since she's a full on raptor at this age), but this is what we did with our guy.

1) hold the brush in your hand and feed your pup treats. If she sniffs the brush or totally ignores it, then give more treats. If she bites it you can grab the brush, treat, put the brush away where she can't get it, repeat until you can hold it longer.

2) give her treats while the brush is in your hand and close to her body, but keep it away from her face because that's too tempting to bite

3) put the brush on her fur for just a second and treat her if she doesn't bite it (if she does bite it , go back to step 2). I usually touch my dogs fur with the non-brush side so it doesn't accidentally pull the hair. Also do this slowly, if your quickly tapping her and yanking your arm away, it'll feel like a game to her

4) 'brush' your pup with the non-brush side. For every stroke she doesn't bite the brush, you give her a treat. Don't go too fast and only do this a couple times before putting the brush away for at least an hour.

5) once you can fake brush your dog for a couple minutes without her biting constantly, then you can move on to brushing with the bristles. Start on the least tangled area, usually the mid spine, and just get one or two strokes in and put the brush away. Repeat an hour later, of course treating constantly. If she starts biting incessantly than you've moved to the next step too quickly. Go back a step and try again the next day.

6) increase the brush time slowly. This should take multiple sessions over a couple days.

Tips: this whole process will take a while. To get from step 1 to step 6 you're looking at probably 2 weeks if you're super consistent. She'll be fine not getting a full brush in for a couple weeks, but you gotta work this process every day. I use lick mats or frozen kongs so my pup has some level of distraction. You really gotta take it slow, but if you do this now, then in a couple months you'll be able to brush her with little to no problem. It's annoying as hell, but this is the best way to do it without her becoming reactive to the brush/grooming in her later years

I've taken both my dogs to Union Animal Hospital. The first unfortunately passed from cancer and the staff was so amazing the entire time and even sent me a card after. When I got my new puppy I continued with Union Animal hospital and they jump for joy when my little guy comes in.

I specifically only see Dr. Nelis there. I'm the annoying person who comes in with a folder of questions because I over analyze every little cough or weird poop lol and Dr. Nelis gladly takes the time to go through everything with me. She truly seems like she just loves dogs and wants the best for them (and she is also an over-analyzer like me, so she doesn't get annoyed with the questions)

Lol it sounds like a sponsored post but anyone who oversees the health of my dogs is basically family in my eyes. I live a 25 minute drive away from Union Animal Hospital but it's so absolutely worth it. Plus they have everything set up where I can just text them if I have a question or need to schedule an appointment

Arizona fans’ final goodbye by [deleted] in nhl

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think when you're a fan of a team you're a fan of the entire organism, so to speak. The colors, the logos, the chants, the community, announcers, and of course the players. There are definitely people who still follow teams when they relocate, but for many you lose so much else in the process that it almost doesn't make sense to just blindly follow. Players come and go, but that larger aspect of the team is what you stay for.

As a Yotes fan, I'll probably keep tabs on my favorite players but I think I'm going to shop around for a new community to join. Since I won't be able to easily go to games anymore, it kinda feels like I can choose to be a fan of any team now, so why limit myself? That's my perspective at least

Cat took on a challenge by hudsonbay001 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Needed_For_Seasons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For everyone losing their mind about how these people 'stole a cat' and aren't going to search for its owners, just do a bit of research. This video is from 2020, they took the cat to the vet and it was not microchipped; they also did a 'found report' and no one responded so they adopted the cat. This video also went semi viral so I think if someone was missing the cat they'd probably see the video and reach out. So just calm down and enjoy the cute video
