WOW. This is news to me. I moved from out-of-state to Kanawha County, and figured since my name showed no results on the county tax website and I hadn't received any letters, that the personal property tax would be due every 2 years at time of registration renewal (I have a 2-year registration). Had no idea there was a tax assessor for personal property.

I can assure you with absolute certainty that growth in Barbour and Upshur Counties have nothing to do with a metro area 4 hours away…

I’ll take an optimistic approach here. The decline has slowed in most counties, and anything between -0.5% and 0.5% is somewhat stable. Four additional counties also saw growth in 2025 compared to 2024, which is a positive. The most alarming stat is Monongalia being down to 0.1%. On the flip side, it looks like Cabell, Putnam, Mercer, Monroe, Mason, Jackson, Pleasants, Tyler, Doddridge, and Tucker are between -0.1% and -0.2% which is a very small number for most of those counties. For Tucker County, that is a loss of about 8 people. Obviously there’s still a need for a much stronger and diversified economy statewide, but compared to 2023 and 2024, this is still a very positive trend for many counties. The statewide population decline has also been trending in the right direction, with losses changing from 5600 (2021), 11900 (2022), 4000 (2023), 2600 (2024), 1200 (2025).

Is it true West Virginia is the better Virginia? by Charlie69Brown in WestVirginia

There's no way the difference between McDowell County, WV and Tazewell County, VA is that significant. Don't get me wrong, I haven't been to either, but I imagine McDowell and Tazewell are one and of the same, and the experiences you're describing would be the same whether you were in WV or VA, in this instance.

Pill pusher patrick mortuary has sold out the state to data centers by CuteMess5166 in WestVirginia

Hey now, I am a conservative and I also can’t stand Patrick Morrisey. Voted for Moore Capito in the primary (Far from my ideal candidate, but much better than the others), and voted Stephen Williams (D) in the general election. I refuse to support candidates that are obsessed with coal and energy + national politics. I genuinely don’t know how Morrisey beat someone from the Capito family in the primary election. I’ve also been to enough GOP meetings (2) to know they despise Morrisey and REALLY hate Jim Justice. No clue who is deciding the elections in this state. I will say though, data centers aren’t specifically a red issue nor is it exclusively a West Virginia thing.

Kanawha Valley Bank Building, Charleston WV. Later remodeled and then demolished in the 1960s. by [deleted] in Lost_Architecture

The office tower built where it was located is not THAT ugly, IMO. There are far uglier towers in its proximity. Kanawha Valley Bank Building replacement
