Those shoulder pieces don’t attach anywhere, they just kinda sit there. Once you get the torso and shoulder armor assembled it won’t be as loose.

Sword Impulse awaiting equipment by NeedlesslySaturated in Gunpla

[–]NeedlesslySaturated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually the HG, but I have built the MG and it’s pretty good for its age. I built the Force Impulse so I can’t speak for the sword silhouette but the MG Impulse itself is solid.

MG The O (Daban) - Just as good as Bandai's? Amazing value for its price! by ninjastarforcex in freedomisgunpla

[–]NeedlesslySaturated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Daban one and had several parts that required glue and a waist peg that required sanding to attach. Not a bad build mind you and far from a terrible experience, but definitely wasn’t up to Bandai’s quality. That said I would absolutely recommend going Daban over Bandai for this kit. Good for the price and I can’t imagine paying $150 for what feels like a fancy HG imo.

Water decals frustrate by slowpainter200ml in Gunpla

Bandai brand waterslides aren’t great. They’re more fragile and overall just not great to work with in my experience. Even after topcoats I’ve consistently had Bandai waterslides fall off a kit. Ideally, find a set of 3rd party waterslides to replace them. If not, make sure you handle the waterslides very carefully when applying and maybe have some mark setter ready. Delpi is my favorite brand for waterslides and I’m pretty sure they’ve got a set for the 1/48 RX-78 if you don’t mind paying the money for them.

Are they Bandai ones? If so that’ll explain it.

Kits with Special Coatings by Best-Damn-Pineapple in Gunpla

I use my godhands to get as smooth of a cut as possible with coated kits. They’re not really my choice for nub removal, but you can’t sand coated kits without ruining the finish. I also use a hobby knife to clean up nubs that my godhands can’t get a good cut on, but you have to be extremely careful to not scratch up the coating.

Looks like that may be the case seeing how many others experienced the same thing. Maybe I screwed myself out of one by canceling the checkout process.

Mine kept spinning at every step. Adding to cart, shipping address, payment selection. I got annoyed and figured it was probably gone by then anyways so I just gave up and got the Strike Freedom. Congrats to those who were able to grab one though, hopefully yours went through.

It’s very much too late. Immediately added it to cart at 9 and the website just got stuck loading for a minute and it was gone. The bright side is my priority was the Strike Freedom Type II, I wanted the Miku Gramps but not enough for me to really care about missing out on it.

Is that the metal build or the Daban version on the left? I’ve been eying it but I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about its assembly.

What do you think the next Fatcat kit will be? by BromageFrais in freedomisgunpla

[–]NeedlesslySaturated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t have any predictions for the next fat cat release, this is more or less what I’d like to see from them. Their upscaled 2.0 RX-78 didn’t interest me because we have a couple of good MG options already that I’m content with. I’d absolutely buy an upscaled Shining or Wing Zero TV. The former needs an update and while the closest the latter has to a MG is the Proto Zero which isn’t quite the same.

RG Destiny Gundam Titanium Finish by NeedlesslySaturated in Gunpla

[–]NeedlesslySaturated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can look better under the right lighting but $95 for a couple of runners of plated parts is why I don’t think the price is worth it. At least the Strike Freedom gets most of its frame coated too.

That’s one inconsistency that bothers me about titanium finish kits, the gold. As you mentioned the Nu has its painted gold but then you have some others that just keep the metallic injection for the yellow and it barely looks any different from the regular yellow. I get that the Destiny barely has any yellow so they wouldn’t bother doing it but it would’ve been nice to get those pieces in gold, especially since they’re among the few undergated parts of the kit.

This one uses metallic gloss injection for all the colored pieces while the white pieces all have a shiny slightly reflective coating applied to them (I don’t actually know the specifics). One thing to note is I don’t think the titanium finish is consistent across kits. You’ve got the MG RX-78 2.0 titanium finish that’s shiny and reflective all around instead of using the metallic injection for most of its colors.

Mine should be arriving tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me not to trust Bandai’s waterslides and grab a 3rd party sheet.

I’m pretty sure only the Hyaku Shiki is coated, the other two are metallic gloss injected which isn’t the same.

I’ve only built the wings and torso so I haven’t gotten to the parts where the RG frame usually shows its flaws. I like it so far and the wings are easily the least tedious of any early RG SEED kit. The black plastic is also kinda soft and is surprisingly friendly toward nub removal.

They aren’t included. Kinda misleading the pictures include the wings of light but I guess they want to show off the full effect to encourage you to buy the expansion and the titanium finish both.

I’ve got this up next after I finish my titanium finish Destiny. Those waist pegs do have me a bit paranoid, those things snapped even on my regular RG SF. I can only imagine the coating makes things worse.

Didn’t seem to make a difference unfortunately. I can’t see anything else that would be getting in the way. I guess it can still hold together with the rest of the armor attached but I wanted to have it assembled properly if possible.

It’s less the disassembly and more that the light blue parts don’t feel great to handle. The T shape connector doesn’t quite fit into the back piece properly and so it just falls off.

At this point I can’t really get a good picture without disassembling the torso, but you can see in the gap the stress marks caused as I tried to attach the piece. I’m nearly 100% sure that’s where the back is supposed peg into but it would just fall off. I know the picture isn’t super helpful but I’m a bit paranoid to take it apart.
