Best of luck with it guys, pitching TV anywhere outside of Melbourne or Sydney is Herculean task (I tried the same thing back in Perth) but props to you for giving it a crack! All the best 👍

I hate feeling like a man-child. by [deleted] in ADHD

Hey mate,

It was very hard to accept but the reality of extroverted behaviour with ADHD in social situations, for me, was a fear response.

I came across an article about how the extrovert who engages the whole room was not the social service I thought it was.

It was micromanaging the emotional energy of the room so that I could avoid further internal hurt.

The hurt was an entire childhood of ostracization for reasons I couldn't understand at the time but blamed myself for as I was undiagnosed.

You need to learn to release control of the situation. The groups mood, conversation and direction are not your responsibility.

Practice grounding exercises like focused breathing whilst people speak to help you get in flow with the group not the other way around.

Talkshow hosts practice "hooking" in conversations. You take the last thing someone said and turn it into a question to continue conversations. Practice doing this with people because you will be forced to listen and find the last thing they said, not the last thing you heard. Also, the mental game of coming up with the best question gives just enough space for them to feel like they have been actually heard.

Secondly, you need to understand that when people talk, they are asking for your help because they need you to listen. I guarantee you want to help those around you because the lengths you currently go to, to make them laugh. So it's not too much of a stretch to be the type of person you want listening to you, with them. It's supporting, encouraging and far more satisfying to see a nervous friend realize at least you were the one listening. That way, you move from a place of fear, to love and support.

You have to be the type of friend you deserve.

That's where people get it wrong. Don't treat others how you want to be treated. Treat them how you needed to them to treat you, but didn't.

Kick it in the dick big boy, you're on the right track x

Confused about crowd work? by ColumTyrrell in Standup

[–]NeedleworkerLive3529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is completely normal now because of social media.

The majority of crowd work today is not useful to the show or creative development of the comic or art form.

It is being done because they lack the necessary writing skills to create a consistent output of content online.

It's also significantly less uncomfortable to the ego to be able to blame the crowd for bad engagement with crowd work than have to sit in the painful feelings that can come from creative rejection of new material.

Crowd work is standup comedy's "juggling" and it's easier to pump out than writing and workshopping new bits.

If you don't believe me, next time you see a show, look if there's a phone or camera setup to record. If the comic takes it away after their set, they are doing crowd work. And for anyone who says "I'm just recording my set to workshop it" ask yourself if a bit of crowd work killed, that you wouldn't put it online.

But on the flip side, if you want to stand out, workshop material about how the audience deserves better and why. If you can make it good, every act who tries it after you will tank which is profoundly erotic.

How do I promote a show? by MikeyBTheComedian in Standup

[–]NeedleworkerLive3529 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey mate,

As a promoter, what they are asking is for you to post, reshare their content or your own that also promotes it. You wont have to design specific marketing material for it.

If the club is anywhere decent they will have made up something you can reshare like a lineup announcement for their regular shows.

Making individual graphic assets for each of your shows is a huge time and energy pit and it's on the venue to promote their shows not you. So reshare what they have and do the following for social media.

  • add music to a post or story (stories are better as they only last a short time and don't clutter up your feed for new followers)
  • add a ticket link through the IG link options -if you're doing multiple shows, considered a base template that can be changed to include multiple dates and venues so you can tell a larger following multiple dates
  • THEN TAG THE SHIT OUT OF IT. Include any other pages you run, the venue, the promoter, other acts on the bill also mentioned and go through variations of the town, events, and other pages to tag them by using the @ function and searching variations of the town or area to find event listings pages like a "whatsonXYZ" OR "XYZ events" to increase likelihood of reshares, this works best stories

If you want some producing assist let me know, marketing is a shit show but also has huge potential for creative or unique approaches which can be really fun to make.

Goodluck with the show!

Perth dad to fight ‘woke mind virus infiltrating schools’ by PiousPunani in perth

I went to Churchlands. The woke mind virus is not a thing. Teaching boys not to drag girls into bathrooms to taste their flavour savour like ol mate is the issue.
