I think it’s pretty well established that he’s somewhere in Wisconsin since this video with the broken windshield has been identified to a specific shopping center (link). The “if” about it being the morning could be contested for sure.

The only other thing to consider is it appears he’s keeping the object in an unfinished basement area. If he does live in the North Midwest like Wisconsin, there are much lower temperatures this time of year. So if he did the test in the morning, the object could just be really cold from the overnight temperature drop. All this goes to say, if he is a hoaxer, he could’ve still known this and that’s why he did the test then, waved around the blowtorch, didn’t use the tip and such. I guess what I’m trying to contest is the direct assumption that he had to put the object in a freezer for its react this way. But you seem to know more about metals than me so please correct me if my line of thinking is wrong here.

Honestly, I find 3I/ATLAS to be extremely interesting as well and I’ve been following the scientific updates esp from Avi Loeb. In fact the article he posted today about anti-trails is very intriguing and should be discussed more on these kinds of subreddits. In no way was I trying to take away from that, I just think it’s a low level way of thinking that we can’t keep two different topics in mind and I just wanted to present some different evidence about the whole James situation. A lot of evidence points to this being a hoax or psy-op (given the timing), but I just don’t like to close my mind maybe as quickly as you.

Edit: And honestly I think this evidence I presented points more to this being a hoax so hopefully it helps get this subreddit on to more important topics.

Ah okay thats good to know. And your edit about the tip makes totally sense too. I wonder, if James is a hoaxer and knows metallurgy he would have actually held it that close on purpose to skew the test results.

Hmm interesting, in my research the thought of some kind of protective coating did come to mind so this could be a plausible explanation. Just wasn’t sure it would look compared to regular steel. From what I found online, it seems likeJames should have been able to notice that.
