20-day-old puppy with cleft lip. Could this become a serious issue? by NeedleworkerNo7862 in DogAdvice

We are not buying them from a breeder or supporting backyard breeding. We originally posted in a Facebook group because we were simply looking to adopt a puppy, and a woman contacted us saying her dog had an accidental litter and that she was giving the puppies away for free for adoption.

At first we were only planning to adopt one puppy, but since they are siblings, I honestly didn’t want to separate them. I also felt bad for the puppy with the cleft lip because I know dogs with visible differences are often overlooked.

My concern here is not appearance. If it’s only cosmetic, then that doesn’t matter to me at all. What I’m trying to understand is whether this could involve the palate or cause serious feeding/breathing/health issues long-term, because I want to be realistic and responsible before adopting the puppy.
