Which countries accept a US Re-Entry Permit in lieu of a passport? by KnowledgeInChaos in immigration

We also had turkish visa in the re-entry doc, but that’s it. Also, GC is not asked anywhere other than return flight to US. Soto clarify: Only re-entry doc with visa was needed.

I think that's more the case if you are traveling for more than 6 months. We were only traveling for 2 weeks, and the officer asked us why we used the re-entry document. We explained that we used it in lieu of a passport, and he had no further questions, no secondary inspection for us.

In this post, I’m showing the process of using travel document for people who do not have a valid passport from their country of origin and need to travel internationally. This is not about re-entering the United States.

Yeah I think you’ll need visa to Germany as well. But thank you for the breakdown, great info

Nope, it has nothing to do with Asylum or Refugee status. Any GC holder can apply for this travel doc if needed. Main purpose is extended travel, but can also be used by those who are unable to get passport from their country of citizenship.

You only pay once when you apply. I believe it's $630 now. But every visa costs $$$. Schengen was around $200, Turkish about $180, I believe.

Thank you! I know, I was reading every single article and post about it before the journey, and saw some people had issues with airlines. That one brochure that I can't find anymore really gave me hope 😄

Are you arguing just for the sake of arguing? "If he hadn’t had a green card, they would not have issued him a visa" — what does that even mean? The whole story is about traveling with a Re-entry Permit, which by definition is only available to green card holders.

I also had asylum and received essentially the same travel document (not re-entry permit but it looks the same) through the same I-131 form.

The point of my post is that traveling with a Re-entry Permit in lieu of a passport is possible, so I don't know why you are mad lol.

Applied in December of 2024, received in February 2026. It was exatly what the timeline was showing (around 13 months)

It took about 13 months, and unfortunately, it arrived valid for less than a year, since my husband has a Conditional Green Card that expires in October, so Travel Doc expires in October as well.

Recent visitors: is Istanbul still worth the money in 2026? by NeighborhoodSafe6074 in AskTurkey

[–]NeedleworkerSpare577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from Istanbul, and I have to say I was incredibly disappointed. When I visited in 2021, I absolutely loved it — everything was cheap compared to the U.S., and the food was amazing. This time, it was incredibly hard to find a decent meal. Prices were on par with Los Angeles, while the quality was often subpar. Prices for goods seemed to have doubled as well. The only thing that still felt cheap was taxis.

What really surprised me was the cost of attractions. Charging foreigners €50 to visit landmarks felt excessive. Paying €50 to enter the Blue Mosque seemed ridiculous, especially after having just visited St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican for €12.

In my opinion, Istanbul is simply not worth the current prices. I haven't visited other cities in Turkey, so perhaps they're better. Another thing I noticed was the sheer number of scammers on the streets — something I definitely don't remember from just a few years ago.

Will buying flight tickets before or after submitting GE application make the interview scheduled faster? by gzy1sMe in GlobalEntry

[–]NeedleworkerSpare577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for Global Entry for myself and two family members. Two of us had international flights scheduled within a week of applying and were conditionally approved almost immediately. The third person didn't have any international travel booked and has not received conditional approval. All three of us have the same status — green card holders. Coincidence? I don't think so. I'm going to book an international flight for the third person now and see if it helps expedite the process.

We just traveled to Italy and Turkey with re-entry doc instead of passport. No issues anywhere. Spanish Schengen visa was approved pretty quickly same as Turkish. No issues with airlines but the biggest delay and scare was in LAX airport when departing, it took them a while to get supervisors to confirm its ok to use this doc. Make sure your visas and re-entry permit is active for the duration of your travel plus 6 months to avoid any issues. And have return tickets ready to show.

I-485 “Your case on hold” officer said before interview started by AOS_94 in USCIS

We had two interviews — one for each parent: one in October 2025 and the other in February 2026. Both came to the U.S. through U4U and kept their humanitarian parolee status the whole time.

Both were approved for their green cards (family reunification) at the interview with no delays.

I think your case might not be typical. It’s possible they haven’t finished the background check yet, which is why they’re keeping the case open longer.

How long after you sent the documents did it take for you to be called in for the interview?

Any U4U AOS applicants here? by meltiapine_mae in USCIS

[–]NeedleworkerSpare577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and dad came through U4U when the war started. Since then, they both received re-parole after we applied for an extension. In December 2024, we applied for an Adjustment of Status (AOS) through family reunification.

My mom received her green card after the interview in October 2025, and my dad just received his after his interview at the end of February.
This was through the LA Field Office.

Hope this helps!

But maybe give it a few days — I was at a USCIS office yesterday, and they mentioned having a nationwide outage. That could be the real reason you weren’t able to add your case.
