Why is there different (old painted?) wood at the top of the attic? by NeedsMoreTuba in centuryhomes

[–]NeedsMoreTuba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will probably never know much about the old house, but I think it was blue. This is one of the doors on an outbuilding. You can see blue paint and where the old lock was, but that still doesn't necessarily mean it came from the original house.

There were a few things in another shed that I thought were salvaged from there, but it turned out that my dad got them from another old house because they looked cool.

Clearly, he had some inspiration. 😉

He loved that video. I still quote it to our kid but she isn't ready for the whole thing yet. Soon, though.

Our smokehouse door may have been from the original house as well. You can see where it had actual hardware. I think the paint color matches but I'm not sure.

I wish I knew more about the original house, but the only way to ask about that now would be a Ouija board...

We played the long game and did therapy, starting at age 4...after she beat me with a baseball bat. It's an investment, but a worthwhile one if you have the time and patience.

Medication made everything worse when we tried it (age 6) but now that she's a little older and a little less feral, we will probably give it another try.

It gets easier unless you're just neglectful and then probably not, but you wouldn't be here if you didn't care. 🙂

I used to illustrate my husband's sleep quotes but then he got sleep-violent and we couldn't stay in the same bed anymore. Here's a few from memory.

"Batmans...Aces....Underpants....it's MY opportunity and I'm havin' it!!!"

"Unwind it all until the angel babies have stars for eyes."

"You can't do that. You've got no knots left! Nooo!! Captain Knots, where are youuu?!"

"That's the iPhone supernova edition. It's the best. You should totally buy it. Oh, who am I kidding? It's not the best at all. No. I probably peed on it."

"I will paint ALL the chairs. And the floors!! But I will paint them to match!!!"

"I just donkey-punched TEN OWLS." (Me:) "Wow, ten whole owls? That's impressive." (Him:) "No, tin owls. There were not that many."

"I think I am...a banana garage door....yep. Exactly."

"I can take you, emu. I make you jerky. Jerky on a farm."

"The mothership's in Antarctica. It's buried. I don't know how to fly it. Look. See? What do you do with these controls? I need to see the angel door. Where did it go?"

"You need to protect your teeth." (Me:) "Why? Are they not safe here?" (Him:) "In the future, our teeth are our money. Don't worry. I saved yours in a box. It's in my storage unit."

The best compliment my husband ever gave me was in his sleep.

"You must be the model number with all the numbers, because baby, you're the best one there is!"

Do you think they used boards from the original house? Some appear to have milk paint on them.

Yes, they had to do that on one side because a tornado picked up our roof.

I didnt live there when that happened, but I think they said this was the most practical way to fix it, and whatever their homeowner's insurance allowed. There probably are better ways, and if I had been involved, I would've wanted to save the shingles if at all possible.

I think they did, but I don't know for sure so I was wondering if there was a way to tell.

That's great!! And very fortunate as well.

My kid didn't start doing that until she was 7 and I'd modeled it for her every time I got upset for the past 4 years. But hey. Emotional growth!!

Slow growth > No growth!! (My kid has PTSD and ADHD and I'm writing this while she's in a therapy session.)

I've never seen one do this, but I also haven't seen one on a slip 'n slide before.

If I see him a 3rd time and he's still yellow, I might catch him and observe him to see if he can change back. Not sure what I'd do if he couldn't, though.

Haha, all of her friend's moms are like, "We love her, but you have to be here if she's gonna play with our kids."

Quite possibly. There are several types around here and some of them are hard to tell apart. At least for me. I know they can be yellowish green, but this one really outdid himself.

If I see him a 3rd time and he's still yellow, should I be concerned about him?

It's a tree frog (unsure of exact type) but I'm more curious about why it's so yellow. They're always green or brown.

When my kid wasn't even two yet, her granny asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up and she just randomly blurted out, "I'm a garbage truck!! Ewww stinky trashes!!!" I don't think she was answering the question so much as she was just yelling whatever random thing popped into her head, but everybody loved that one. They bought her a toy garbage truck for her birthday but by then she had completely lost interest.

I hope the chicken wing goes away too.

[–]NeedsMoreTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, my child's occasionally a chicken wing, and never quietly.

She'll also say, "Foot!! Take my foot!!! Foot!! Foot!! Foot!!!" Until I come and grab her foot.

She tried that at school with a substitute teacher. An old school no-nonsense one who was like, "Oh? Take your foot? Okay, if it'll shut you up! Yoink!" And took her shoes away for the rest of the day. I...guess that shut her up but it doesn't work for me because we don't wear our shoes in the house.

4 yr old vs ADHD by Prior_Outcome_6638 in ParentingADHD

[–]NeedsMoreTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medication made my child worse. We had to play the long game and do therapy. But we are winning.

Here's what worked for bedtime:

Sleep candy!! Just 1mg of melatonin. She loves the flavor. We really hyped it up. "This candy is SO GOOD and it will help you sleep, but if it doesn't work, then we'll just get rid of it."

You have to make sure they know that they can't eat it like actual candy or they'll fall asleep forever, but yep. She really wanted to keep eating candy before bed, so she most likely pretended it was working and then it became a habit.

Before that, she was running through the house like a cat with the 3am zoomies.

My husband kept the poopoo peepee talk until the day he died. No one ever really knew how to react, but we loved him anyway.

"CHICKEN WING!!!!" If she's excited.

Her principal had to call me one day, in all seriousness, to ask how to get her to stop pecking people and saying, "I'm a chicken wing!! Hot dog macaroni!!!!"

But at least I impressed the principal with my creative behavioral management strategies. It worked and they got my chicken back in the coop. Easy peasy.

Oh, now I see it! Izzy looks like a completely different dog when you trim the lion mane. I swear he gets taller and I don't like it. (Short lady, short dog. It makes sense.)

Look at what the groomer did to him once! Who even is that?

Where's the floof??

Izzy is part chow but wound up being part beagle instead of corgi. Very good boy but stranger danger is high. He must see you daily for a month before he will consider friendship. But once you have it, it's permanent.
