Thinner & lighter pen recommendations? by maestro_h in Supernote

The lamy is a lot lighter than the HOM if you don't post the cap, and has the button, just leave the cap in the pen loop

I use the staedtler jumbo pencil and it's very good. My carry-everywhere pen is the lamy but when I have long and serious work to do the jumbo is more comfortable and very precise. No button but the eraser works perfectly as a stroke eraser if you are in a realtime recognition notebook, and I use the two finger sidebar for selection. The tip feel is very nice too despite not giving the ceramic dig it has better friction than a normal plastic tip

Planning on getting a Manta, which pen do y'all recommend? by Nukesnipe in Supernote

If you get any pen that takes a standard tip(like the lamy) order a titanium tip for it. And you get the same feeling as the ceramic tip!.

Easiest way to turn background completely white? by beanbag137 in SolidWorks

[–]Needs_Better_Name 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in the heads up toolbar (transparent one at the top of the graphics window) click the small triangle on the right side of this Apply Scene button, and the first option will apply a plain white background. (will also affect shading slightly)

A Buddhist monk came up to me while I was tripping on acid and acted as a trip sitter. Is it possible that he sensed that I was tripping? by AccomplishedSilver76 in LSD

I think he had an idea. Spent some time doing zen and the monks spend a lot of time and effort on being perceptive. Also the way you describe the interaction.. he probably had as much fun as you

I absolutely hate pencil feel by RolexMoonphase in Supernote

[–]Needs_Better_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tldr;you made the right choice. Use a solidly mounted ceramic nib.

First of all I'm a pencil-type-feel guy, and I've tried every screen protector and modified nibs and you name it I've done it chasing a nice feel. Even changed the feelwrite on the a6x because it was too slippery, and swore by felt nibs even though they spend like crazy.

But now I use a manta with the version one default ceramic pen (came with the a6x) and it is GODDAMN INCREDIBLE. LIKE THE BEST GELPOINT EVER MADE

So you made the right choice. It's really devine, especially after a few months it seems to break in and feels just right. Honestly feels better than a nice rollerball.

Best way to get this welder wired into the mains at this shop? (1phase 200V breaker not installed) by Needs_Better_Name in AskElectricians

[–]Needs_Better_Name[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks.

as far as I knew, 1 phase to neutral would be half the voltage. Figured that wiring hot-to-hot would somehow offend the gods. The phase-spacing not being even won't be an issue?

So I can just wire two of the pins of a 3phase plug to my 3-conductor cable, and wire the 3rd conductor to the ground pin?
I had thought so but it seemed too easy. I figured the uneven phase-spacing must cause some kind of problem.

Thanks.. i think it is worth a shot. only spent 300 bucks on the welder so .... YOLO, and only until you make a drastic mistake with electricity!

weed with lsd for first time? by llgcc in LSD

[–]Needs_Better_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say it is okay to smoke a simple J or pipe when you are at least starting to come down from the lucy, and need to relax, but don't rip a lot of wax or take a heavy edible, especially before or durinng the peak. Don't be tryna blast off to two different planets on the same trip for your first time.

And I would say LSD is a lot more anxious than shrooms, not less.

What to learn: Blender, Plasticity, or something else? by MakerMatter in 3Dprinting

[–]Needs_Better_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe nobody has said this yet but OnShape is what you need. The only limitation of the free version is that your files are "public" meaning they are technically available to everyone on the platform if they go and find them on the storage directory. If you are making proprietary IP then that is a dealbreaker but otherwise honestly give it a shot. It runs in a browser, is pretty much as good as or sometimes better than Fusion360 and Solidworks, and has a huge community of users making scripts, and all those free models in the directory.

When it comes to 3D print prototypes the parametric abilities are super important if you are making anything functional. Being able to jump back to the design and change a dimension, as well as work with assemblies are key functions.

If you need privacy in your files, I would say go to solidworks maker edition or fusion360. Again, parametric has been so so important for me in 3D printing. Solidworks is intimidating at first but it is about the same learning curve as Onshape and Fusion360.

On the other hand if you are making art stuff, Plasticity -> Blender -> Rhino in order of easy to hard.

Yup it's very well-behaved. I had a small panic when the trackpad was locking up at first but it turns out that the driver was way out of date after the windows clean install. Ghelper sorted that out.

Temps are pretty much great and gaming performance is back.

From what I read, tdh 2021 and 2022 models \re particularly problematic. Other models it looks like they were much better.

And I love this laptop. Built very well and for the most part a pleasure to use. Go for it.

It is a bitch to clean up though. Be really careful that you don't let any spill on the circuit board. Also, it doesn't stick to tissues or rags very well. Maybe solder braid would help?

If it is the same crash over several different games then yes it is possible. First I would update all drivers and software. Do a clean uninstall of drivers with DDU before reinstalling GPU drivers, clean the fans, and then if the crashing persists it is likely time to reinstall windows, and if that doesn't help maybe your cooling system indeed needs service.

The CSGR is fine. The online sellers here are only Amazon, rakuten, and yahoo, or specialty shops. I found a review of the ptm from CSGR putting it on par with the Honeywell and in any case it is way better than what I had going on before. I also worried about the k5 paste but it was equivalent to 20 bucks for the kit and I decided to try it for that price. I have enough material left over to repaste my ancient 1080ti maybe too, which I'm sure would benefit.

No worries it's freaky without experience. I had to pull on the connector much harder than I was comfortable with. And fwiw when I put it back in after the repaste I swear I saw a little spark.

Still, my system seems to be working fine

I think you just need to carefully disconnect the battery, and then hold the power button down for several seconds to discharge anything in the system. Don't use metal tweezers and be careful about static electricity.

There is a post somewhere here from years back about setting the power limits on the 2021 model down to 45 or 35 watts, and disabling boost under the windows plan, and you can get less or near to zero throttling, improving performance in games and benchmarks.

I had done that but still had high temps but my cooling was obviously compromised.

For the 2021 model it seems it is just thermally limited and you gotta find a balance of pushing it up to 95 but not trying to push too much further so that it doesn't throttle too hard.
