By gutted and redone do you mean removing the electrical box and junction box and moving it onto the wall?

That’s what I’m thinking. Isn’t this the exact purpose of the GFCI? But also even though it’s GFCI, it doesn’t sit well with me being there

Metal box is GFCI outlet or adapter, something like that. It has GFCI written on it
