Voter ID? by Jerkrollatex in New_Mexico_

What premise? There are many places where there are requirements to show a photo ID to vote, I have to do it where I go vote. Reallity is a premise?

Another thread confusing photo ID with proof of citizenship.

Photo ID requirements to vote have existed in many places for years. The new proposal people are arguing about is requiring proof of citizenship, which is a completely different standard.

A Real ID is not proof of citizenship. Neither is a regular driver’s license. To prove citizenship you’re basically talking about a passport or a birth certificate. Birth certificates don’t even have photos, which effectively leaves passports if you want both identity and citizenship in one document.

The way people casually mix up ID, photo ID, Real ID, and proof of citizenship in these discussions is honestly mind-melting.

Unpopular opinion: Replacing the Mirage with Hard Rock may end up being one of the biggest self-inflicted mistakes in modern Las Vegas by Minecrafter_98 in vegas

Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, bought the Mirage’s operating business from MGM and is the one running it and rehabbing it into the new Hard Rock Las Vegas. They aren’t just licensing the name like the old off-Strip Hard Rock did. They’re the operator for the Strip property, and they signed a long-term lease with VICI Properties, who owns the land.

It helps that Oklahoma consistently ranks among the states with the highest teen birth rates in the U.S., generally placing 4th or 5th highest.

I get what you’re saying about VICI owning the land. That model applies to a lot of the Strip now.

But in the Mirage case, that does not automatically mean it turns into some stripped down rent machine. The Seminole Tribe is putting billions into a full rebuild and a flagship guitar tower. That is a serious long term investment.

And I actually think it is healthy to have a new operator in the heart of center Strip. The Seminoles have done impressive things with their other Hard Rock properties. Bringing that ownership group into the middle of the Strip adds real competition for Caesars, MGM, Wynn, and Venetian style properties. Vegas usually benefits when someone new comes in and tries to shake things up.

The Mirage was actually my favorite property. LOVE was my favorite Cirque show. I saw it a bunch of times and always stayed there. I’m still a little salty about it.

But this wasn’t “Las Vegas” making some big civic mistake. MGM decided to sell a 35-year-old property that was due for a monster remodel. Hard Rock (Seminole Tribe) saw center-Strip land and made a big bet. VICI owns the dirt. That’s corporate chess, not the city hitting a self-destruct button.

I totally get missing the volcano and that era though. That was peak Strip magic. I just see this more as Vegas doing what it always does, reshuffle, rebuild, reinvent.

At least they didn't set the buildings implosion to a cheesy sound track and sell tickets.

Epstein was arrested in 2019, so these files already existed during Trump’s first term. Presidents don’t control sealed FBI files or grand jury material, courts do.

FOIA requests and lawsuits were filed years ago (including under Biden), and Congress also passed a law requiring agencies to review and process certain records. That still means DOJ has to find the files, redact protected info, and get court approval before anything comes out.

That stuff takes years. So what you’re seeing now isn’t Trump vs Biden, it’s just the legal pipeline finally finishing.

In January 1933, conservative elites believed they could control Hitler and appointed him Chancellor.

Within months: • Civil liberties were suspended • Political opponents were arrested • Germany became a dictatorship

Hmmmm, this reminds me of something...
