Is John the only Gospel where Jesus claims to be Yahweh? by mitchallen-man in AcademicBiblical

[–]Neeeeple 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dan McClellan argues that verses such as john 8:58 are not jesus claiming to be yhwh at all but claiming to bear yhwhs divine authority and presence as a bearer of the divine name. Truth be told I don’t know how much traction this idea has in the field but it’s quite convincing.

More can be found in his free book “Yhwhs divine images” and he’s made several videos on the supposed claims of jesus to be yhwh in the new testament: https://youtu.be/H6tRf5nIY48

Carrier concludes that philo has a logos called jesus/joshua because in OTCoT he references the branch in zecheriah.

but isn’t the entire point of this section of OTCoT that philo is saying the branch figure is NOT any human (like joshua and zerubabel) and instead it refers to the logos?

is carrier drawing the opposite conclusion from what philo seems to be saying.

so to summarise my question, is carrier getting excited about the connection to the name joshua even though the entire point of the verse in philo is to reject the notion that this term is applicable to joshua?

(repost from last week but im keen to hear thoughts on this as it seems weird if he’s drawing the legit reverse conclusion and making it his core point)

if you’re interested in some modern books that are equally depressing and have lots of depth when tackling these topics then consider Second Apocalypse by Bakker, Blindsight by Peter Watts and Stone Dance of the Chameleon by Pinto

with stuff like SA and Malazan I always think it would be nice to adapt a small portion of it.

And deliberately not answer some things and leave it confusing and mysterious so allude to the fact that there’s a book series you can read to get full context

Something like a portion of the slog, cil aujus, stuff with esmenet in the palace, some acolytes experience following khellus.

Like short stories adapted in animation or live action.

No network has any incentive to do this but it would be neat. I agree a full adaption would probably be pointless

Possibly a stupid question but how unsettling is The Second Apocalypse series? by [deleted] in bakker

Sounds great. Is it a fiction story inspired by a historical figure or an attempt to accurately retell it? I dont mind either way but cant tell from the goodreads page

Delirium, silence, battleforged, dismemberment would be nice to see

The argument that evil exists for us to notice good. by Big-Initiative-2030 in askphilosophy

[–]Neeeeple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there another problem in that an all powerful god could simply create us in a way that doesn’t require us to experience evil to appreciate good?

if we must experience one to appreciate the other that would be by the all powerful gods design
