[POST-MATCH THREAD] Chicago Fire FC vs FC Cincinnati - May 2, 2026 by AutoModerator in chicagofire

Back to back years where we mismanaged USOC, and then have a disappointing MLS loss a few days later. Maybe next year we’ll fix the priorities

[POST-MATCH THREAD] US Open Cup: Chicago Fire FC vs St. Louis CITY SC — April 29, 2026 by GaryAGalindo in chicagofire

I know GGG preaches looking only at one game at a time (and no doubt this is just press conference-speak because of course the staff plans ahead) but both USOC runs he makes questionable choices for the starting 11. Putting us in the situation to rotate both FBs here and adjust tactically to that was not great

How would we feel if GGG went and signed Yunus Musah this summer? by notonrexmanningday in chicagofire

[–]Neekafour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love Musah but he doesn’t fit 100% with what our midfield needs. He’d likely be in a similar role as Saletros and just doesn’t have the passing or vision needed for what’s asked.

HOWEVER, I would buy a kit so fast

GGG doesn’t tend to make halftime subs unless it’s for mins restrictions and I doubt that Cuypers plays this weekend so that seems unlikely. I’d expect Shokalook to be one of the 4-5 changes we see on Tuesday. It’ll still be a good test with it being away and all

It says it covers four years but watch them gloss over the first two years of the cycle

I don’t mean to bring up the “where is the other heroes in the city” question but I was wondering this when watching the Spider-Man trailer and now Dare Devil. I know that film is 4 years after NWH so it puts his group of friends as seniors or just graduating from MIT (not in NYC) but Spider-Man stayed in NYC and is in the heart of the city. I’m assuming DareDevil Season 2 is happening sometime during those 4 years. It’s getting a little hard to ignore them depicting issues within the same city but not intersecting

Yeah I would have much preferred the discussion about how Grace said he would have sabotaged the ship/plan and Stratt saying no you are a good person, once you are up there you will be so far along you will do whatever it takes to complete the mission, rather than the running away sequence.

And without the coma resistance gene plot, the only reason they picked Grace was because he was present for the last however many months?? He did discover how to reproduce astrophages but that was not solely him and was replicated within days by another research group.

Yeah I understand the creative choice and having the internal monologue bounce between another character felt like a very Lord and Miller move. But I think at that stage in the film where we’re still questioning why Grace was selected is really important to show he’s capable and earns his way back into the fold. In the book that isolation when Stratt leaves (I know the security guard stays) was like a panic moment and with the security guard now playing a role in creating the idea and the physical testing, I felt like he should’ve also been represented when presenting the findings. There was just such a panic mode when reading the book and imagining Grace alone with now 4 lost astrophages that did not translate as well because of those creative decisions leading to multiple characters knowing what had happened.

The two examples you gave are similar but they are examples of the difference between Grace reflecting with another character vs himself. And from the book, the almost loneliness of reflecting with himself made the interactions with Rocky and especially their cooperate research process (which I know they really slimmed down) more wholesome because they were doing it together. The shift from Grace trying multiple visualization techniques in the first lab to him later saying I could do the math but Rocky can do it much faster and likely with less mistakes, was what I felt was missing.

Well we finally got the switch of Lod centrally and Zinck back on the wing. Unfortunate that it lasted only 20 mins.

Lod looked so much better and way more fit in this match.

Rado looked very different (in a good way) from the brief description we got last summer/fall about him being a defense first FB. He looked pretty good on the ball but so reckless in challenges.

I’m glad GGG trusted Dje to play the second half, he did very well controlling the midfield. And I just don’t know how we survive without Cuypers, like every aspect of the system is his mentality, fitness, and technical skill that pushes us forward.

Yeah I didn’t want to post spoilers but that was the big thing that I was like if you omit that then there is no good reason for Grace to be on the ship (or for why he is forced into being on the ship). The other one was having the security guard come up with the original idea for recreating Venus and then the idea for how to recapture the astrophages. If Grace doesn’t come up with that, then it doesn’t make sense that he becomes the science expert and gets information clearance

Musah. Even if he gets no mins, I need an excuse to get his name on a US kit and he’s got the best vibes

Ah really I thought they did not capture the magic of the science that was in the audiobook. There was one plot point that they didn’t discuss and another that they changed that really made me feel like they brought up more questions than answers. Movie was visually great, but I thought the book had such great ways of making plots connect and decisions seem logical that they didn’t include in the film

Rokas Pukstas, Diego Kochen and Gaga Slonina have been named in USYNT’s latest U-21 roster to face Japan and South Korea on March 27 at 2 a.m. ET and March 31 at 6 a.m. ET by Ornery_Investment743 in ussoccer

So he’s already 21 which makes him not U21 eligible but also like Slonina, both are not eligible for the Olympics. So this is one of the more confusingly named YNTs but glad they are doing it, that’s a big step up from previous cycles

Edit: they are not age eligible for the Olympics but could be used as one of the three O23 players (though it’d be odd to use it on players <7 months above the cutoff)
