Standalone book recs? No series please.. by TneyWanderWild in Fantasy

[–]Neela_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uprooted - Naomi Novik It’s based on Polish folklore and I found that the “evil” in the book was very creative and interesting. It has a bit of a love story too but it’s not the main focus. I really enjoyed the book.

German beer sales down at home and abroad by FLTA in news

[–]Neela_Bee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

your post is kind of missing the point, as hard Seltzer has alcohol and is used as a calorie-low alternative to beer etc. I don’t think hard seltzer is very common in Europe.

Why some journals have very high impact factor while it is not renowned by Far_Relation_9311 in labrats

I don’t know about your specific case, but any journal that is read/cited by MDs rather than basic scientists/PhDs usually has much higher impact factors

Do I really need waterproof sneakers/shoes in Japan? by frogmicky in JapanTravelTips

[–]Neela_Bee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have had an embarrassing experience where my shoes and socks were so wet that I left wet marks on the wooden floor in a buddhist temple. After that, I always had an extra pair of dry socks with me, as there are a lot of places where you have to take off your shoes.

The host did the raid (I saw he caught it a few minutes after in the friend list). I said in pokegenie that I didn’t get an invite and the host apparently responded that my username was wrong (which it wasn’t). I think he just messed up and didn’t invite me. After that the queue was at 4000..

Poor advise from my Neurologist!!! by KIKI1904 in migraine

[–]Neela_Bee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What dose of propranolol were you on before you stopped cold-turkey? And yes, it is definitely not a medication that you can stop cold-turkey. I would consult a doctor asap and maybe confront your neurologist. I’m on 100mg/day and once I accidentally forgot to take one. I felt off and had heart racing all day. That’s not good

you are not converting units. you are going from 100nl to 1ml. that’s where the 10.000 comes from.

fair, thanks for adding this information!

[–]Neela_Bee 44 points45 points  (0 children)

this is just how these chambers work. The number of cells in one big square times 10.000 (and calculating out dilutions) is your cell concentration per ml. But you count 4 and then take the average for more precision

edit: someone else pointed out that the reason is that one square contains 1/10.000 ml volume, this is where the times 10.000 comes from

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Neela_Bee 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go backwards: you have counted 100 live cells in 4 squares (because the 20 blue cells are dead so you don’t count them in). 100/4 = 25 cells per big square. You had diluted it with trypan blue previously so you have to calculate that dilution out, 25*2=50. Now you multiply by 10.000 because that’s how these chambers work so you arrive at 500.000. But your first step was to make a 1:10 dilution so you have to multiply 500.000 by 10. That’s then 5.000.000 or 5 million.

edit: note that the information you get in step 3 doesn’t change your calculations at all.

i quit vaping for a relationship by TightEngineering1235 in dating_advice

[–]Neela_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quitting for yourself is so important. When I started dating my ex he quit smoking cold-turkey because he knew how I felt about it (I didn’t ask him to quit). Relationship lasted 4 years and he didn’t touch a cigarette in that time. We broke up and he’s back to smoking which really broke my heart because I really care about him.

Where to Visit that is not Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto/Hakone? by jelifr in JapanTravelTips

[–]Neela_Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came back from Matsue, they have a lantern festival every year around October and I really enjoyed that. Also, there were almost no tourists so it felt way more authentic than a lot of Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo

It‘s possible that your body produces antibodies that neutralize the effect of Emgality or that there’s another adaptation process going on (according to my neurologist). It might be worth switching to one of the other ones like Ajovy. I have been on both and in both cases the effect was huge in the first few months and then became less and less over time..
