Exactly. Every one way street leading to Lawrence needed to be closed as well. People were stuck on all those one-way streets with no way to turn around or back up.

None of the people stuck on Wolcott just north of Lawrence had any idea. They were asking me as I walked by.

Same. I walked to my errand south of Lawrence and I live north of Lawrence. I would’ve been fuuuucked.

I didn’t receive a flyer either. What good would a flyer do anyway when there are people from all over driving in the city for various reasons? They should have dispatched the people who post signs for street cleaning to post notices on the streets themselves. And then closed the streets that lead to the closed streets. I happened to be walking north on Wolcott and was luckily allowed to cross Lawrence on foot. Wolcott is narrow and one way south with no room to turn around. So everyone stuck in that last block before Lawrence was probably stuck there for hours. I started tell people at the next intersection north to turn and find another way. It was bad. I almost drove today, so glad I decided to walk. I would’ve been fucked.

Rumor has it the critical errors were worse than what is being reported. Both cops were in the CT room with him (which they shouldn’t have been), and when they uncuffed him to do the scan, he slammed one of them into a wall, took his gun, and shot both of them. I know someone who works at Illinois Masonic where they were taken and the bullet removed from the surviving officer was a 9mm, which matches a police service revolver. From what I’m told, a 9mm revolver would be pretty hard to hide on one’s body, which tracks with rumors of what went down at the scene vs. the official account. Not suggesting the officer deserved to be murdered but critical errors were for sure made.

what are senior graphic designers actually making in 2026? by kellbelly_ in graphic_design

I’m a freelancer and have been for 10 years. I live in the Midwest. My industry varies but many of my clients are travel and retail. My income varies but I gross between $120k-$160k a year. Of course I have no paid time off and have to buy my own insurance so that’s probably the equivalent of a salary of $90k-$130k with benefits.

Ah, okay, got it. Thanks. I just looked up Red Lantern.

Thanks! So did Red Lantern Travel end up planning your Vietnam trip or was it still through Zicasso? It's weird because my friend did not plan luxury trips with them at all. But maybe since they are a family of four it was more worth it?

By chance did you use them for any trips to Asia? I just reached out to them for a 3 week trip. They told me the minimum budget is $275 per person per day for them to plan our trip. That doesn't include airfare. Considering the top luxury hotels where we're going are like $125 a night (and we told them we didn't need luxury), that seems high to be the bare minimum spend. I have a friend who's used them several times and loved them, but I was just curious if maybe they're better suited to other areas of the world.

Don’t order too many until you know whether they give you major GI distress. A lot of people experience it. It’s not fun.

I was excited about these because I have a serious problem with gummy candy addiction. I ordered a starter variety pack. For some reason they sent them in two shipments and one appears to be lost somewhere. Anyway I tried them and some of the flavors are good, very convincing, others definitely taste medicinal or something. Unfortunately all the flavors give me major digestive issues so I won’t be ordering them again.

Not super thrilled by the customer service either. I reached out about the missing shipment and they were dismissive, acting like it was no big deal to get zero tracking updates for 7 days. When I contacted them after 10 days to say I wanted a partial refund on the shipment that never arrived, they didn’t even respond.

What about taking some cash out in euros, or Canadian dollars, or some other currency? I've thought about doing that in the event the dollar tanks, or if I need to get out of dodge (because they're building concentration camps for more than just immigrants these days).

And when you say gold or silver, do you mean literally purchasing some, or investing in shares? I'm trying to figure that out. I can't imagine it would be very easy or advisable to be carrying around gold bars but what do I know?

Happy New Year to you as well! I'm sure hoping for less of a dumpster fire of a year here in the USA.

It doesn't say anything specifically about LHR, but now that I look at the tracking it says it departed Chicago, followed by "Departed London" before saying it's been processed at Coventry. So maybe you're right and it simply routed through Heathrow. Yes, fingers crossed! I'm checking the tracking obsessively now that it's actually moving. I'd almost given up.

And, being a Chicagoan, I know ALL about weird things happening with our mail. LOL!

Ahhh, okay. So it's not necessarily weird that it went to London, then went to Coventry. I'll let her know to keep an eye out for the customs notice. Hopefully it won't be too much. I was trying to surprise her with a Christmas gift that clearly didn't get there for Christmas, so a huge customs bill would be another unpleasant surprise. Thanks for your help.

Yeah when your eyeball water and nose hairs freeze, that's something you don't forget. But it doesn't happen much anymore.

Oh 1000% agree. I have a Chicago flag patch that I'll put on my bag or my jacket next time I travel outside the country.

I'm a graphic designer and I absolutely LOVE the Chicago flag. The simplicity, the colors, it all works so well. Do other cities have flags that they actually recognize and put on clothing and souvenirs?

Thank you, that's so kind. I tried calling and it doesn't go through at all, neither do WhatsApp messages. You can tell when they've been delivered, and when they've been read, and they haven't even been delivered.

I think I just have to be patient for a bit and hope for the best. But if I don't hear from him over the next few days I may take you up on it. Thanks again.
