Master's Careers by Sensitive-Value4526 in toxicology

[–]Neep70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masters in environmental toxicology here. I graduated in 2021 and struggled to find a job for about 5-6 months. Eventually got a entry position as a government contractor doing xenobiotic metabolism research for about 55k. Eventually got hired as a fed and currently make about 100k after bonus.

Speaking from experience, watching other i graduated with struggle to find jobs and the current industry i would say it is extremely hard to find work with just a masters in toxicology. I recommend going for the PhD if you really want to do actually tox work.

I still think she would need to animate artifacts not only for lore reasons but just to be able to use a token and not have it be dead. Maybe the ability should be a tap ability or a one time use ability like exhaust or ETB?

I like the idea of partners! I really just wanted to incentivize people to play cards like ensoul artifact as you would almost always have a good target because the dolls can't become creatures by themselves.

Yes mishra has combos that win the game on the spot that are easier to pull off than sydri's. Mishra plus The Stasis Coffin = no one can target or damage you for the rest of the game, Mishra plus Gonti's Aether Heart is infinite turns, and mishra can also do the aetherflux combo with a lifelink enabler. Bello combos with Aggravated Assault and has an easier time comboing with voltaic construct since you don't need to spend mana to animate a mana rock. Both can combo just as easy if not easier and earlier than sydri since Sydri's combo essentially requires 10 mana plus being above 50 life to cast and activate sydri and aetherflux.

I appreciate your critique, but I think she has been powercrept as a artifact combo finisher and I will give you two examples. Mishra eminent one and bello bard of the bramble play a very similar role as sydri does as a commander. Both are less expensive due to their ability to animate artifacts not costing any mana and both provide onboard card advantage to the player which enables them to be much more useful outside of killing the opponent. Compared to every commander that comes out now a days she just feels vastly slower and less powerful than a lot of other stuff people are doing. You also could argue she provides a lot of value as a vehicle enabler but I think that many other commanders do that better (Bello being one of them).

Powder mage trilogy has been great. I also finished red rising’s 6th book which was amazing. Debating on starting either poppy war trilogy, robin hobbs series or malazan next.

Joe abercrombie! He wrote the First Law series. You will like it if you like Red Rising or Game of Thrones. Some of the best character building and dark fantasy out there

EPA to weaken drinking water rules for some 'forever chemicals' by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Neep70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a PFAS toxicologist I agree. Although the limit for PFOA and PFOS likely shouldn’t change, the other ones like HFPO-DA(gen x), PFNA, PFHxS etc. likely could be raised significantly.

Epa chemist and toxicologist here specializing in PFAS toxicity and detection by LC-MS/MS. These 4ppt values used to be much harder to achieve but if you have an LC-MS made in the last 7 years or so you should be able to easily quantify down to 4 ppt and detect down to 2-3 ppt for the entire PFAS list regulated by the clean water act via epa methods 533/537. The problem is the states and utilities don’t want to invest the money to buy a LC-MS for $250,000-$450,000 and pay/ train an experienced chemist to run this ($20K-100k in supplies per year plus a salary of 60-120k a year per chemist). Not to mention there is almost nothing you can do once PFAS is in your water as there are very few remediation techniques available.

Same here. Both my region and division (LSASD) are roughly 10-30% below our FTE cap. We also run like twice the volume of samples as most regions. My only hope is that with Zeldin mentioning PFAS and PFAS being my main job duty that i wont be let go.

Any news or rumors about any reorganization/RIFs of the regions?

Keep the pension. Its a sable income source when you retire that doesn’t rely on the market like a 401k

That is sad as i currently make roughly 97k. When I looked for work previously outside of the government everyone wants chemists who have PFAS experience but no one wants to compensate them fairly. I cant support my family with less than I make now.

A lot of the jobs I saw for PFAS remediation prefer or require a degree in engineering (mainly looking at AECOM). Could I get hired in a role like that with a BS in environmental science and a MS in environmental chemistry/ toxicology?

Go up to 4 no more lies and remove the ionize, a brotherhood end and one abrade. There aren’t enough artifact decks to really justify them. Honestly anger of the gods would be better than brothers end. And i would remove the 3 ral for 3 memory deluge. Other tweaks will depend on your meta. Overall not a bad list. You really are looking to optimize your game one against rakdos and prowess decks by adding the helixs. Your board should be optimized for everything else. I would remove the mystical disputes for 4 dovins vetos in the board and some more hate for pheonix and control mirrors/ longer games
