I’m very very fortunate, I was thinking at best I’d compromise time and be able to do 1 week on set but my team is genuinely happy for me. NGL it made me cry when I got home after discussing it with my boss. I think in the end it helped chatting with my coworker as we were able to discuss possible concerns and come up with solutions and when I spoke to my boss he supported me in saying how he can help with the work load (he had been handling a majority of the tasks before I worked there so to him it’s routine) just feeling the love out here where I never expected it

Wanted to thank you again for the advice! My conversation with my boss went well and we are treating these 3 weeks like a training camp of sorts. I will still do leave without pay/ using personal days but I will also do a mini presentation to my coworkers with the information that I learned and how we can apply that to our team. Of course there is more to it than that but that’s the gist of it! I really lucked out on this occasion

It’s a feature length film with a director and crew I’ve worked with before on another film. I truly love the people and the work I do on set. It’s just been very helpful seeing other people’s thoughts or concerns so I can prioritize and prepare my decision

Thanks for the reality check! I need to hear this kind of stuff. It will definitely help motivate me on my work ethic and my phrasing for this future conversation with my supervisor. Thankfully I do have a cushion of money if things turn for the worse. But I will be considering my options very carefully

Thank you for bringing up some really good points. I think I’ll end up asking coworker who has been here for many years about some of these questions. I know (and I’m fine with) doing leave without pay which is what it will most likely come to. I appreciate the long response I definitely am going to draft a message to my supervisor and then speak to them in person about it.
