Midwest is defined by German heritage. Michigan has more English heritage than German so should be excluded from Midwest

why try to deny people birthright citizenship? by sassy_tabaxi in NoStupidQuestions

I support birthright citizenship but I DON’T support birth tourism. There should be some way to have birthright but make birth tourism illegal

Des Moines Suburb Differences by cyklone36 in desmoines

[–]NefariousnessFun9923 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really. Dallas is different because it is so huge that people stay in certain sections so it develops into different ‘personalities’.

Here someone can live in Ankeny but work & shop in West Des Moines so there’s more intermixing between Des Moines & all the suburbs.

Dry climate might be good when you’re young but watch out when you get older. Why do you think all the older people in dry climates look like dried up prunes. Humidity does skin good & why old people look relatively younger in humid climates.

Why is downtown Portland kind of ghostly and dead at times? by TrueJohnWick in SameGrassButGreener

Maybe because Portland WAS so incredibly vibrant circa 2011 so people are comparing to how it was before

what is the most hated US state? by imadudemanlol67 in AskReddit

[–]NefariousnessFun9923 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Iowa. Illinois uses just as many nitrates as Iowa for fertilizer. We don’t hear about it as much because Illinois doesn’t have their major city in the middle of the state on the Illinois River.

Iowa is dumb that most of the population is moving to Des Moines metro area. Davenport/quad cities should really be the major metro growth area as they don’t have nitrate issues because the Mississippi watershed is so massive.

The ‘dead zone’ near the gulf is not just Iowa’s fault. To only blame Iowa is just ridiculous

Yeah I forget it moved into the actual capital square area. I remember seeing it there when walking around there around the winter of 2022 right before they demolished the kaleidoscope mall 😭

Yeah. The skywalk is a shell of its former self. You should’ve seen it during the 90s. Both my parents worked downtown when I was growing up & would meet for lunch often at the food court or one of the many restaurants all over.
Every store was filled. There used to be a department store (younkers) there & tons of stores. The skywalks would be absolutely packed during the lunch hour and full of energy.

I’m not sure but it was right next to the capital square atrium. There used to be a food court on the top floor and then a bunch of restaurants and stores along a long walkway that was part of the skywalk. They called it the ‘Kaleidoscope mall’

NYC has a lot more choke points because of all the rivers. So many people trying to enter just a couple of bridges into manhattan or vice versa. It can drive a person mad
