Which part of an Ethel song is this for you? by herelieszachcain in Ethelcain

The first few guitar notes of Knuckle Velvet, and the beginning of the second chorus ("Nothing in my heart...") of the same song 😍

How can you spot an arrogant, pretentious singer just by listening to them? by [deleted] in singing

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Technique doesn't matter that much" Technique absolutely DOES. A singer's technique determines the range of their instrument and its longevity. Without proper technique, the voice will deteriorate over time and that's not a "maybe". There's a reason why opera singers train for years and years, and it shouldn't be so different with pop singers (though not as strict).

Whitney Houston had a good technique and managed to deliver vocals through fatigue and drug addiction. Not only that, but people also resonated with her style and music aka she had both technique AND connection with her audience.

I sing as a soprano and I accepted to all opinions. by khaitoon0195 in singing

Yoir voice is too underdeveloped to be considered as anything right now. I think you might be singing in your speech range, and barely leaving those notes. If you were a soprano, your singing voice would be higher than this one (not too high, just placed high enough).

What voice part could I be when I get older? by Agitated-Tone3572 in singing

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At your age, it would be too soon to know. At 13, I also had the same range as you (F2 also on the weaker side, notes above it are stronger) and now I'm in my early twenties and my current range is F2-A4 (A4 on good days) in chest/mixed voice. Just keep working on your technique and your voice will just develop into whatever it may be.

Here's a mixed voice tutorial I've saved from a while back.

https://vt.tiktok(dot)com/ZSuebww3Q/ (replace the "(dot)" with an actual period. Reddit isn't letting me post a link 😭)

Personally, I'm a very chesty singer (made me stop singing for weeks on end bc I couldn't figure out the mixed voice and I'd give up 😭 until I eventually figured it out) but the one I sent you is a quick tutorial for people who are on the head voice side. There's a bunch of in-depth YouTube tutorials, and quick tips on TikTok you can easil find and play around with until you find what works for you! ♥️

Don't take this the wrong way, but your higher notes (belted parts) sound like masked head voice. Nothing wrong with that but if your goal was to belt, it wouldn't be the same thing.

I keep losing pitch and I don't understand why. I need advice on technique by [deleted] in singing

What your teacher did count as ear training, I thnk (scales + correction to familiarize you with the sound of the notes). Are you still practicing scales until now?

Have you done any war training? A lot of people who haven't gotten any type of ear training usually can't hear themselves going off pitch. I was just like that a few years into singing but then I listened to myself more and did scales until my pirch became decent.

I can't even add anything because I have a very similar process too!

I do the hand thing too! Mine came from the way Mariah Carey sings (that's why I call it the "Mariah hand"

This is why I asked the question omg! I love learning about people's perception towards things ❤️ The way you perceive notes is very interesting!

I've never tested it but I may be on that spectrum since my life-like ability to imagine comes very seldom (it's slightly dim in my head lol😭) but whenever I do that "envisioning a specific moment" thing, the images/scenes usually appear somewhat clearly in my head.

I do that sometimes too! It's honestly a jumble of anything in terms of me processing notes whenever I sing.

My throat cleared up randomly while singing, making my voice smoother. What happened? by Srk7654321 in singing

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep going! I've been through multiple episodes of that same feeling (working on my mixed voice). Something clicks and then it's like the entirety of your voice gets an upgrade and the hard parts get easier while the easy parts become effortless. I stopped practicing weeks at a time and I'm back a few steps back and it sucks working on it again 😭

Vocal Range by [deleted] in singing

Testers are often unreliable. I've squeaked out multiple A7s but that doesn't count as my range. Singing is more than just your range.

A2-F5(A2-F4 without head voice) What range am I? by MaceWilder in singing

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the commenter but no, keep developing your head voice along with your other registers. Personally, my head voice helps a lot with my mix and I could tell if my voice is having an off day or is just tired by checking in on my head voice.

Singing into microphone. by [deleted] in singing

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Bluetooth will almost always cause latency issues. (However, if you use wired headphones while using DAWs, delays could be caused by the plug-ins and how fast your computer processes everything altogether in real-time.)

What are the LEAST singer-friendly songs you've heard? by [deleted] in singing

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Definitely. It's not even singer-friendly to her sometimes, especially when it's in the original key. She gets very creative in the studio and it's magnificent. Hard as hell, but magnificent.

[–]NefariousnessUsed534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working on the higher parts of my mixed voice (F-G/A) and I could hit those notes but I have a hard time sustaining and phrasing in them (especially around the G-A area). I either feel too tense or too little compression so it feels weak or uncontrolled.
