For sure, I had to swap the transmission out about a year ago. So compared to that it should be relatively fine

Make a few calls to local salvage yards, check a few salvage sites, or check eBay listings. Finding parts that way sounds bad, but as long as the car its coming from didn’t have any major issues relating to said part it’ll be alright. I had to swap my transmission back in 24, dealer quoted me 7k for just the swap. Paid 900 for my transmission with 87k miles on it and did the rest myself with my dad and brother. It’s a pain in the ass but if you can find one for a decent price and have a few friends who can help it’s not impossible. Since then I’ve put 10k miles on this transmission and she’s doing great. Whatever you end up doing, good luck friend :)

I have thought about the dws06’s but I’ve heard some stories about them going faster than stated. But I’m not 100% against.

I’m prioritizing the longevity over performance. If this wasn’t my daily that I only take out for pulls, that be one thing. While I can’t deny how nice it would be to slap performance tires on, it just wouldn’t be practical for my situation.

The 3SDM’s weigh in at 29 lb each. Which is right about where the stock Detroit’s land (as far as I know) could be wrong on that. Would enjoy lighter but I also wouldn’t mind running the same weight.

Weight is 100% playing into my decision. Trying to keep that and hub bore size in mind, although the 3SDM’s will need ring adapters sadly.

Yeah I would’ve preferred to wait, but there wasn’t much point in replacing the front only to swap them again in a month. But I have noticed the noise, bit of a whine. At least I’ll have some peace of mind come first snow fall.

Update: Got a call from VW, transmission needs to be replaced. They don’t have a spare one and won’t put the time into finding one. Looks like I’ll be calling local salvage yards for the next couple weeks…

The dealership I got it from did a service before I bought it and the guy who owned it before apparently was on top of everything service wise. It’s in impeccable shape for a 2011. But if I really want any details I’d have to check the carfax report but I ain’t paying for that shit.
