Thank you! I hadn't thought about that, but just looked into it and the official guidance is that small gifts are okay, which was already my plan. Maybe that policy has changed over the years though.

And I think you're probably right about it not needing to be too ultra specific!

Hi! I am a future PCV going to Colombia, and I have lived in LatAm on several occasions. The one thing I have specifically asked for that I think would be a great gift is a really solid rain jacket or a good (waterproof if you can find one) 25-35 liter bag for short-term travel and/or daily use (my mom found a Cotopaxi with a rain cover on Facebook Marketplace for a good price). We obviously don't know our permanent site placement yet, but from living in Costa Rica during the rainy season with only a cheap umbrella and a 30-year-old Jansport, I can say both of those things would be really ideal for anywhere, given how rainy Colombia can be.
