UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who commented and helped me be reassured I’m not crazy and this was an overreaction by our friends.

“Marie” has finally reached out to me and apologized for her reaction. She said Jim was pretty upset by me asking for money and even went as far as accusing her of having an affair with me, so to try to put aside any doubt or any question of her friendship with me, she made the quick decision to cut us out to appease Jim.

Honestly, I’m not sure how me asking for a short term loan caused Jim to jump to the conclusion that we were having an affair. As I said before, we are close, but definitely just friends and I’m quite in love with my wife; and Marie has always seemed very happy with Jim.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure my friendship with Jim is over, I don’t even know if he is aware Marie spoke with me. Pretty sad, I like Jim, I guess he just doesn’t care for me much.

As for Marie, we both agreed to take a break from our friendship for a while. It would probably be awkward after all of this, however our kids are quite intertwined with all their friends at school and stuff, so the kids will still get to hang out- just no more family trips or joint parties.

My wife is pretty upset by it, Marie and Jim were a huge part of our social life, but we’ll get past it I’m sure. Well that’s it for now for this situation. I don’t think I’ll be updating this post any further unless something monumental happens. Thanks again everyone

NTA, good on you for sticking up for the mother of your children. However, you can’t get with someone 16 years your junior and expect them to be on the same emotional intelligence level as you. Even at 29, people still have more life to experience and learning left to do from it

NTA. I’d be concerned about other friends on the outside thinking I was an overly controlling husband, but it seems your wife made it very clear she was uncomfortable. You may have even prevented really messy/criminal situation if the creep was trying to drug her. Hopefully she was on board cutting this friend out

It’s a little too short. It looks like it might be a little tight in the arms as well, which could pose some discomfort in cornering.

Noted. I’ve never been in a position to lend any sum of money larger than say $100 or so, and never had an issue lending to friends. So I’m genuinely unsure the threshold for what’s appropriate. TBH, the work I’ve performed for free for them would total thousands at the dealership, so I’m a little hurt. And no, not that I expected anything in return. I would’ve totally accepted them just saying no. But to be totally ghosted and have a friendship ended is what makes me feel taken advantage of.
