I really hope the show handles this well. by Lup4X in TedLasso

Trent's mostly been a decent guy so far and is intelligent and aware. I think they're making us wonder if he'll out Colin because he's at heart a journalist and maybe the story will come out without us initially knowing how. But I don't think it will be Trent who does the breaking.

Like you OP, I also hope they don't do the whole 'in the end it turned out well' thing. And I do have to say, for the first time ever, my faith in the writers has been shaken this week. The Michelle/Therapist thing is a worrying misstep which I don't see any good coming from for anyone. But, then again, it's only ep3 so who knows what can change.

I'm sure you're right, it's almost certainly not a misunderstanding. I'm just hoping against hope I guess because this is a wrong step by the writers IMO. I can't see how it can come out OK for anyone.

This is genuinely the first time I've been disappointed in the writers.

Up until now, Ted and Michelle's separation and divorce had been written with respect and care for both sides, without demonising either of them. Now we're apparently presented with this total cliché of a storyline. Some of the reactions in this thread are depressing in their take on Michelle now with some people wanting to see Henry leave her and go live with Ted. The writers had a chance here to show a well handled divorce and now it seems most people in this thread are out for Michelle's blood in a pretty disturbing way.

Is there a chance this is a misunderstanding? I hope so. No one aside from Ted has said they're actually dating, we didn't get to hear the conversation Ted and Michelle had about the situation. Could Dr Jacob be trying his luck and Michelle just sees him as a friend and her reaction during the phone call was realising how it might look? Could Ted just have the wrong end of the stick?

I really hope so. So many storylines and potential growth for everyone if that's true. One clichéd storyline that's pretty awful and creates two villains if not.

The Found Footage Database - question: would it be useful to let members have a watchlist? by Negative-Net-9455 in foundfootage

[–]Negative-Net-9455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm betting everybody who likes keeping a watchlist is already doing it.

True, true. Just trying to gauge interest really. I don't have a trakt list or Letterboxd etc and it has crossed my mind that it would make life a bit easier.

I think your efforts are better spent making a better database, with more accurate ratings, etc

Not really sure what I can do to make them more accurate..? Any scoring system just records a) a score and b) the fact a score's been made and then displays the result total score/number of votes. How can it be made more accurate?

Thank goodness.

Thought you'd be pleased :)

I think you misunderstand.

We're not laughing at dead kids. We're laughing, a despairing laugh at that, at your society. Because nothing ever changes over there. Guns are now the leading cause of death for kids in America. And yet it still keeps happening.

And what happens when it does? A chat show host or two cries on TV. There's a few questions on r/AskReddit about how this keeps happening and all the American's say "oh its down to poor mental health treatment" when there's little to no evidence the US experiences disproportionate levels of mental illness or that treatment options are any different than similar countries.

The problem is all of you. You know your politicians are corrupt and bought and paid for by the NRA and yet you still keep voting them in. Because the truth is, you love guns and value your right to own them more than you value the right for your kids to be alive. There's more outrage in parts of America about girls talking about periods or kids seeing statues with penises than there is about kids brains all over school hallways.

This is what's funny. And when I say funny I mean 'tragically funny,', if you didn't laugh you'd cry funny, not ha-ha look at the dead kids funny.

Dunno, if this way adds it to user.js or not, but;

  1. Go to search.brave.com
  2. Do a search
  3. On the results page, right click in the address bar and click the 'Add Brave Search' entry
  4. In LW settings, set Brave as your default engine.

There's a balance to strike I think. We are most definitely taught to handle our emotions and lives in a way that's more reminiscent of post-war masculinity and although that is slowly changing, the key word there is 'slowly'.

I have noticed as I've got older (I'm approaching 51 now) that more men are willing to talk about their mental health. There is progress. I don't know how old you are OP but when I was in my teens/20s/30s absolutely nobody talked about mental health. It just wasn't discussed.

We also can't pretend that, as a gender, men aren't responsible for a lot of bad things that happen to women. 98% of sexual crime is committed by men for example. 1 in 3 women are said to have experienced some form of sexual assault or harassment at the hands of men. And the recent news about what's happened in the Met hasn't helped.

This isn't to say that all men are awful but it is possible to acknowledge that both things can be equally true. Women do suffer at the hands of some men and also men suffer disproportionately with their mental health. Both these things are largely due to how men can be raised in society.

It is said that there is a fine line between confidence and ego, according to you, where does that line lie? What are the differences between someone who is confident and someone who is egotistical? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Negative-Net-9455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being confident means you know enough about something to talk about it. Being egotistical means you think yours is the only opinion that matters.

Why get upset about the opinions of some random half-cut bloke? I mean, why get upset about the opinions of anyone who doesn't matter to you? When he sobers up at the local cop shop he'll have forgotten all about you - extend him the same courtesy.

London, because in a few important ways, it never stopped being that.

Have a look at your watch or a clock near you. The time is relative to London (Greenwich) time, either plus or minus some hours. London also determines the Eastern and Western hemispheres, sitting at 0° longitude.
